Will Hobbs (wrestler)

Will Hobson (born January 23, 1991), better known by the ring name Powerhouse Hobbs, is an American professional wrestler signed to All Elite Wrestling (AEW).[9] He is a member of Team Taz alongside Ricky Starks and Brian Cage. Hobbs has also wrestled on the independent scene, mostly notably for All Pro Wrestling (APW) and Championship Wrestling From Hollywood (CWFH).[5]

On December 6, 2015, Hobbs won the UWN Tag Team Championship at CWFH with Damien Grundy under the name "Cold Cold War".[5][10]

Professional wrestling career

Independent circuit (2009–2020)

Hobbs made his professional wrestling debut on July 18, 2009, at All Pro Wrestling (APW)'s Gym Wars, under the ring name 'Will Rood, where he was unsuccessful to win the Royal Rumble to determine the No. 1 contender for the APW Worldwide Internet Championship.[5][8] During his time at APW, Hobbs held the Worldwide Internet Championship three times[10] and won the APW Tag Team Championship three times with Marcus Lewis, under the tag team name "Lion Power".[5]

All Elite Wrestling (2020–present)

In July 2020, Hobbs began to work for All Elite Wrestling (AEW), wrestling on their YouTube show Dark, losing against different opponents.[11][12][13] On September 5, Hobbs competed in the 21-man Casino Battle Royale at the All Out pay-per-view, which was won by Lance Archer. His performance in the match impressed Tony Khan,[14][15] and on September 16, it was announced that Hobbs had signed with AEW.[16] On the September 16 episode of Dynamite, Hobbs saved AEW World Champion Jon Moxley from an attack by Brian Cage and Ricky Starks thus turning face in the process.[17] Hobbs unsuccessfully faced Cage for the FTW Championship on the October 7 episode of Dynamite.[18] On the November 18 edition of Dynamite, Hobbs turned heel by aligning himself with Taz, Brian Cage, and Ricky Starks after striking Cody Rhodes with Cage's FTW championship belt and then helping them attack both Rhodes and Darby Allin.[19] The next week on Dynamite, he defeated Lee Johnson under his new ring name, "Powerhouse Hobbs".[20][21] On the December 2, 2020 special Winter Is Coming, Hobbs and Starks lost a tag team match to Cody and Allin.[22]

Personal life

Hobson has two sons and one daughter.[2][3]

Hobson was raised by his grandparents. Hobson states that his love of professional wrestling came through his grandparents who regularly watched and attended wrestling shows in California.[1]

Hobson's older brother was killed by gunfire. Hobson and his older brother had aspirations of being a manager-wrestler duo in professional wrestling.[1]
