1883 Çeşme earthquake
The 1883 Çeşme earthquake occurred at 13:30 UTC on October 15. It had a magnitude of 6.8 on the moment magnitude scale and a maximum felt intensity of IX (Violent) on the Mercalli intensity scale. There was widespread damage in the Urla–Çeşme area with 3,600 homes destroyed and at least 120 people killed.[1] There were damaging aftershocks on October 22 and November 1.[2]
