Athletics at the 1982 Commonwealth Games – Men's marathon

The men's marathon event was held on 8 October at South Bank(start & finish)next to the Brisbane River in Stanley Street.Brisbane, Australia.Athletics were held at the QEll Stadium.[1]

The two Tanzanians, Juma Ikangaa and reigning champion Gidamis Shahanga, opened up a large lead (estimated at close to 500 metres), but Rob de Castella closed the gap in the final kilometres to win.
