Bosnia and Herzegovina in the Eurovision Song Contest 2009

On 15 November 2008, BHRT opened the submission period for artists and composers to submit their entries up until 20 December 2008. Songwriters from any nationality were able to submit songs, however artists were required to have Bosnian citizenship.[3][4][5] At the closing of the deadline, over 50 submissions were received by BHRT with submissions from Irina & Storm and 2006 Bosnian Eurovision entrants Hari Mata Hari.[6][7][8] On 12 January 2009, the broadcaster announced that they had internally selected Regina to represent Bosnia and Herzegovina in Moscow.[1][2]

The song to be performed at the contest, "Bistra voda", was presented during a television special entitled BH Eurosong 2009 on 1 March 2009. The show was broadcast on BHT 1, BHT SAT and BH Radio 1 as well as streamed online via the broadcaster's website bhrt.ba and the official Eurovision Song Contest website eurovision.tv. In addition to the presentation of the song, the show featured guest performances by 2009 Slovenian Eurovision entrants Quartissimo and Martina Majerle, 2009 Turkish Eurovision entrant Hadise, 2009 Macedonian Eurovision entrants Next Time, 2009 British Eurovision entrant Jade Ewen, 2009 Greek Eurovision entrant Sakis Rouvas, 1998 and 2009 Maltese Eurovision entrant Chiara and 2009 Montenegrin Eurovision entrant Andrea Demirović.[9] 1964 Yugoslav Eurovision entrant Sabahudin Kurt was also present during the show as the guest of honour.[10][11]

Before performing in Eurovision, Regina visited various competing countries in order to promote "Bistra voda". These countries included Serbia during the semi-final of the Serbian national final, Beovizija 2009.[12] and the Netherlands during the Eurovision Promo Concert in Amsterdam on 18 April.[13] Regina made an extensive promo tour throughout the Balkans. The band appeared in both Albania and Montenegro, as well as performing on TV Bingo Show on Croatia's HRT 1 on 4 April, where they performed "Bistra voda" for the Croatian public. Regina also performed on RTV SLO's TV show Spet Doma in Slovenia. Further promotion was made with the release of English and Russian versions of the song, as well as the final Eurovision version and a remix of the song.[14]
