Buffalo Creek Bridge

The Buffalo Creek Bridge is a historic bridge that carries Robert Parker Coffin Road across Buffalo Creek in Long Grove, Illinois. The one-lane bridge was built in 1906 by the Joliet Bridge and Iron Company, replacing an earlier wooden bridge. It adjoins and provides access to downtown Long Grove, which formed at the intersection of Robert Parker Coffin Road and Old McHenry Road. The bridge uses a Pratt pony truss design, which is characterized by supports that extend above the deck of the bridge but do not cross over the roadway. A decorative wooden covering was added to the bridge in 1972 to decrease its maximum height and thus deter heavier vehicles.[2]
