Life

Of Circassian origin, Dilpesend Kadın was born on 16 January 1861 in Tbilisi, Georgia.[2] Born as Azize, she was the daughter of Maksud Giray Bey.[3][4]

Before her marriage to Abdul Hamid, she served in the entourage of Tiryal Hanım, fourteenth wife of Sultan Mahmud II.[5] After her death in 1882-3,[6] as custom dictated, all of Tiryal Hanım's servants were transferred to Dolmabahçe Palace.[7]

Dilpesend married Abdul Hamid on 10 April 1883.[8][3] She was given the title of "Fourth Consort". On, 9 January 1884, a year after the marriage, she gave birth to her only child, a daughter, Naile Sultan.[9] In 1895, she was elevated to the title of "Third Consort".[1]

She was tall, had black hair, and wheat complexion.[7]

Death

Dilpesend Kadın died on 17 June 1901, at the age of forty, in the Yıldız Palace,[2] and was buried in Yahya Efendi Cemetery, Istanbul.[1][10]
