The name "Gautami" was given by Radhika Mamidi, a resource person for Telugu, from National Centre for Software Technology itself, working with R_K_Joshi's team. It refers to the tributary "Gautami" of Godavari River. Gautami and Godavari rivers have a deep emotional connection with Telugu speaking community. Hence, the name of this typeface seems apt.
