Israel in the Eurovision Song Contest 1990

Israel participated at the Eurovision Song Contest 1990, which was held in Zagreb, Croatia, Yugoslavia, and was represented by Rita with the song "Shara Barkhovot".

Selection

On October 3rd 1989, The IBA announced that Rita was chosen in an internal selection to represent the country at the contest, that for the fame she got in Israel and the Middle East since participating at the Kdam-Eurovision 1986, despite finishing at only 4th place. On February 25th, 1990, the IBA published the lyrics of the song Rita will perform at the competition, Shara Barkhovot, and on April 6, Rita performed the song for the first time in the talk show "Siba LeMesiba" (A reason for a party), hosted by Rivka Michaeli.[1]

At Eurovision

Rita performed 10th on the night of the contest in Zagreb, following Norway and preceding Denmark. At the close of the voting the song had received 16 points (the highest being 5s from Finland), placing 18th out of the 22 participating countries. The Israeli jury awarded its 12 points to the host country, Yugoslavia.[2]
