The main house was built in 1900.[2] It was purchased by John Rushing and his wife, née Myrtle McRae, in 1915.[2] Rushing purchased it with several buildings, including a house for African-American tenants.[2]

The main house was designed in the Colonial Revival architectural style.[2] It has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since December 17, 1999.[1]
