Luxembourg in the Eurovision Song Contest 1993

Luxembourg was represented by the band Modern Times, with the song '"Donne-moi une chance", at the 1993 Eurovision Song Contest, which took place on 15 May in Millstreet, Ireland. The song was chosen internally by broadcaster RTL Hei Elei and is noted as the last Luxembourgian entry to date, as following the 1993 contest RTL opted out of Eurovision participation and have not returned since.

At Eurovision

On the night of the final Modern Times performed 15th in the running order, following Ireland and preceding Slovenia. The rock-styled song had not been expected to do well, and for most of the voting appeared to be heading for last place with only 1 point received from Slovenia, until the notoriously unpredictable Maltese jury voting last due to earlier technical problems, and now with the outcome of the contest in their hands awarded 10 points to the song, to gasps of stunned disbelief from the audience. The final tally of 11 points lifted Luxembourg to 20th of the 25 entries. The Luxembourgian jury awarded its 12 points to Switzerland.[1]

The low placement would in any case have meant relegation from the 1994 contest for Luxembourg; however the decision by RTL to withdraw indefinitely from Eurovision following the 1993 edition made the issue moot.
