Oru Oorla Oru Rajakumari (TV series)

Oru Oorla Oru Rajakumari (transl. In village there lived one princess) is an Indian Tamil-language family soap opera on Zee Tamil and on their ZEE5 platform from 23 April 2018.[1] It stars Ashwini and Puvi Arasu in the lead roles. The show replaces Rekka Katti Parakkudhu Manasu series time slot and airs Monday to Saturday. Later it rescheduled to air daily.[2][3]

The story concerns a young, overweight girl, Rasathi (Ashwini), who battles against body shaming.[4] The plot of the story is taken from the Badho Bahu serial, which airs on &TV.[5]

Plot

Rasathi – A plump girl. She faces prejudice due to her size. Rasathi is a single-parent's child, so that her mother Shenbakavalli and family with Rasathi father's friend Paarivendan and family has take the initiative for Rasathi's marriage because she is the daughter of Paarivendan's friend also Rasathi's family have not enough property to arrange the marriage. Paarivendan fixed a man named Shankar for Rasathi, who has already married and had a child. During the marriage time, Shankar stopped the marriage has because of Paarivendan, who had a problem with Shankar two days before the marriage. So that Shankar thought to take revenge against Paarivendan in marriage function. After Shankar leaves from there, Rasathi became worries. Paarivendan realize that because of him only the marriage has stopped, so he promises Shenbakavalli that his son Iniyan – the village's best Kabaddi player – marry Rasathi. Iniyan initially rejects this marriage as he loves another girl, but his father compels him to accept and marry Rasathi. In Iniyan's house, everyone except Paarivendan, paternal uncle Nesamani and cousin brother Kumaran, hates Rasathi. First Iniyan's paternal aunt Maragatham, the head of Iniyan family, hates Rasathi because of her appearance and she belongs to a middle-class family. Sencondly Maragatham's son Kumaran married Rasathi's classmate, Kanmani – a greedy, well-settled and angry girl. She initially loves Iniyan and wish to marry him but her plan fails because of Rasathi marries Iniyan. So that Kanmani decides to take revenge against Rasathi. So that she marries Kumaran and enters as sister-in-law of Iniyan. Also after some days Kanmani makes Maragatham as an interloper toy to her. Iniyan's mother Mangai initially dislikes Rasathi but her co-sister Maragatham always appreciate her own daughter-in-law Kanmani but she apologize Rasathi, so that Mangai started to take care of Rasathi. Day-by-day Kanmani give plans to Maragatham for Rasathi to get stress and tension always. So that Rasathi needs to overcome the problems which arise by them.

Iniyan refuses Rasathi always and he not allowed her to sleep with him. Also Kanmani and Maragatham makes them to separate. This news knows by Mangai and decided to unite them. As days passed on Iniyan understood Rasathi with the help of Mangai and they both unite.

Now Iniyan's cousin sister also Maragatham daughter Punitha, fall in love as one side with Rasathi's younger brother Kabilan. Punitha express her love in different ways but Kabilan has not intreset in it also if he loves Rasathi's life will be spoil. One day Punitha and Kabilan meets in theme park and talked about their love, that time the group of members form politics saw their discussion and they thought that both of them are the lovers. So they told them get marry on that spot. Punitha and Kabilan get shocked and they refused to marry at the place. But the group of members took a weapon and compel Kabilan to marry her. So that Kabilan knotted the Mangalyam to Punitha and both married. As the gang moved form that place, both of them feels how the family will accept so that they both decided to keep this issue has secret. Days passed on Kanmani finds the marriage of them and told to Maragatham. All the family got shocked and Maragatham got angry on Kabilan and Rasathi for this issue and she told to Rasathi go out from the house. Suddenly Iniyan supports Rasathi and told to Maragatham that if Rasathi goes out, he will also accompany with her. Maragatham suddenly dazed that Iniyan is speaking like this to her. She told that if Punitha and Kabilan to stay in this house, Rasathi and Iniyan needs to move out. Paarivendan, Mangai and Nesamani stop them to not leave the home, but Rasathi and Iniyan thought Punitha and Kabilan life to be good and they went out from the house.

At present Iniyan's best friend Alagu arranged the rent house for Rasathi and Iniyan to stay. As days passed on Rasathi and Iniyan thought to start a new business has a fruits and vegetables shop with a group of Rasathi's family members. This news heard by Kanmani and again she became greed and thought to failure the business. Rasathi and Iniyan manage their life and business against Kanmani forms the rest of the story.

Casting

The series is a family melodrama that airs on Zee Tamil HD. Newcomer Ashwini was cast in the female lead role of Rasathi, and fellow newcomer Vasanth Vasi was cast in the male lead role of Iniyan, later replaced by Puviarasu. While Prabhakaran Chandran, Subathira, Geetha and Azhagappan were also selected for pivotal roles.[6]

Adaptation

The series concept was taken from & TV series Badho Bahu aired from 2016 to 2018 and it was remade in various languages.

Crossover episodes

This series had crossover the episodes called Maha Sangamam with "Sathya" from 3 August 2020 to 16 August 2020. This Sangamam garnered top 5 position in the most watched Tamil television programs of the week.[7]

Again, the series had crossover the episodes called Maha Sangamam with Sathya for a second time from 9 January 2021 to 7 February 2021 with 30 episodes.[8]

Production

Due to COVID-19 pandemic situation Oru Oorla Oru Rajakumari and all other Zee Tamil serials have stopped from 28 March. On 27 July all Zee Tamil Serials resumed with fresh episodes.[9]

International broadcast

The series was released on 23 April 2018 on Zee Tamil and Zee Tamil HD. The show was also broadcast internationally on the channel's international distribution.
