Background

On November 12, 2020, the selection of the Weeknd to perform the show was announced.[1] According to an interview published by Billboard on January 28, the Weeknd's halftime set will last for 24 minutes but that was later denied by reps for the singer and will perform "roughly 12-13 minutes long". He stated, "We've been really focusing on dialing in on the fans at home and making performances a cinematic experience, and we want to do that with the Super Bowl". The Weeknd has also contributed $7 million dollars of his own money for the show.[4]
