Troller Veículos Especiais

Troller Veículos Especiais S/A (Troller) is a Brazilian off-road vehicles manufacturer. Founded in 1995 in Horizonte, Ceará, it became a subsidiary of Ford in 2007.[1] Troller's flagship vehicle is the Troller T4 SUV, which had featured successfully in several rally races around the world, including the Dakar Rally.

Name

The name Troller is a non-official Portuguese adaptation of the Scandinavian word troll.[2]

The Troller company started in 1995, by Rogério Farias.[3] In April 1996, the first prototype was built.[3] In 1997, Troller was bought by the entrepreneur Mário Araripe, who formed a partnership with Rogério Farias,[3] and the first gasoline-powered T4s were built.[2] The mass-production of the vehicles started in 1999, when a factory was built.[3]

In 2005, a manufacturing plant opened in Angola to build the T4 for the African market.[4]

Ford do Brasil announced in January 2007 the acquisition of Troller for an undisclosed price.[1]

On 14 December 2009, a Troller made the news when it cleared São Paulo's flooded city streets during a live broadcast.[5]

In 2014, the Troller T4 received a redesign.

The Troller plant in Horizonte, Brazil was expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2021, with Ford ending all production in Brazil.[6][7]
