Umerkot District

Umerkot District (Dhatki ضِلع عُمَرکوٹ , Urdu: ضِلع عُمَرکوٹ ‎), is a district of Sindh province, Pakistan. The city of Umerkot is the capital of the district.

Local Language is Dhatki which is one of the Rajasthani languages of the Indo-Aryan branch of the Indo-European language family. It is most closely related to Marwari. Sindhi, Urdu and Punjabi are also understood in the district.

History

After the 1843 invasion by Charles Napier, Sindh was divided into provinces and was assigned a Zamindars, also known as Wadaras, to collect taxes for the British.

Umarkot Shiv Mandir

The Umarkot Shiv Mandir is one of the oldest and sacred Hindu temple in the Sindh.On Maha Shivratri, many Pilgrims from lower and upper Sindh come and most of them stay for the three days of festivities. It is one the biggest religious festivals in the country which is attended by around 250,000 people.[3]
