Traditionally, WMGQ starts playing Christmas music 24/7 from Thanksgiving Eve until Christmas Day is over. From 2005 to 2009, WMGQ played Christmas music on November 20 to the day after Christmas is over (which most radio stations do). Today, Magic 98.3 switches to all Christmas in mid-November.

On July 19, 2016, Beasley Media Group announced it would acquire Greater Media and its 21 stations (including WMGQ) for $240 million.[1] The FCC approved the sale on October 6, and the sale closed on November 1.[2]
