The species was formally described by botanist Jim Willis in 1986.[2] The specific epithet commemorates Stella Bedggood (1916-1978) a member of the Ballarat Field Naturalists' Club.[3]
G. bedggoodiana occurs in eucalypt woodland between Enfield and Smythesdale. The species is listed as "Vulnerable" under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act, "threatened" in Victoria under the Flora and Fauna Guarantee Act 1988 and "Vulnerable in Victoria" on the Department of Sustainability and Environment's Advisory List of Rare Or Threatened Plants In Victoria.[4][5] [6]
