List of animal advocacy parties
In recent years, several political parties were founded that have as their main goal the improvement of animal welfare and the recognition of animal rights:
Political parties
Europe
- The Human Environment Animal Welfare Party (German: Partei Mensch Umwelt Tierschutz, in short: Tierschutzpartei) was founded in Germany, in 1993.
- The Party for the Animals (Dutch: Partij voor de Dieren) was founded in the Netherlands in 2002. It is represented in parliament with five seats from 2017.
- The Animalist Party Against Mistreatment to Animals (Spanish: PACMA, founded in Spain in 2003 as Partido Antitaurino Contra el Maltrato Animal, in 2011 renamed to Partido Animalista Contra el Maltrato Animal).
- The Party for the Animals (Dutch: Partij voor de Dieren) was founded in Belgium in 2004. It was merged into Vlaams Belang in 2019.[1]
- The Italian Animalist Party (Italian: Partito Animalista Italiano) was founded in Italy in 2006.
- The Animal Welfare Party was launched in the UK in 2006.
- The Animal Protection Party was founded in England in 2008 and dissolved 2016.
- The People-Animals-Nature (PAN) formerly Party for Animals and Nature (Portuguese: Partido pelos Animais e pela Natureza) was founded in Portugal in 2009. It is represented in parliament with four seats from 2019.
- Fokus was founded in Denmark in 2010 and dissolved in 2015, originally as a splinter group from the Danish People's Party.
- The Animals' Party (Swedish: Djurens parti) was founded in Sweden in 2014.[2]
- Animal Justice Party of Finland was founded in Finland in 2015.
- The Animal Party (French: Parti animaliste) was founded in France in 2016.
- V-Partei³ (German: V-Partei³ – Partei für Veränderung, Vegetarier und Veganer, Party for Change, Vegetarians and Vegans) was founded in Germany in 2016.
- The Animalist Movement (Italian: Movimento Animalista) was founded in Italy in 2017.
- DierAnimal was founded in Belgium in 2018.
- Vegan Party (Danish: Veganerpartiet) was founded in Denmark in 2018.[3]
- Party for Animal Welfare (PAW) was founded in Ireland in 2018.[4]
North America
- The Prohibition Party, founded in 1869, opposes animal cruelty, specifically advocating against animal testing, cock- and dog-fighting and bear baiting.[5]
- The Animal Protection Party of Canada was founded in Canada in 2005. Originally named the Animal Alliance Environment Voters Party of Canada.
- The Humane Party was founded in the United States in 2009.
Asia
- Trees Party was founded in Taiwan in 2014.
Oceania
- The Animal Justice Party was founded in Australia in 2010. It is represented in the New South Wales Legislative Council with two seats from 2019. The party also has one seat in the Victorian Legislative Council (2018).
Groups
- The Euro Animal 7, European group founded in 2014. In 2019 renamed to Animal Politics EU.
