List of designated places in Quebec
A designated place is a type of geographic unit used by Statistics Canada to disseminate census data.[1] It is usually a small community that does not meet the criteria used to define incorporated municipalities or Statistics Canada population centres (areas with a population of at least 1,000 and no fewer than 400 persons per square kilometre).[2] Designated places are created by provinces and territories, in cooperation with Statistics Canada, to provide data for submunicipal areas.[2]
As of the 2011 Census of Canada, Quebec had 106 designated places;[3] of these, 94 are dissolved municipalities (municipalité dissoute) and 12 are unconstituted localities (localité non constituée).[4] Quebec’s largest designated place is Sutton, located within the larger ville of Sutton,[5] and has a population of 1,728.[6]
