History

In May 2018, the Chinese automotive manufacturer Great Wall Motors announced the creation of the new Ora brand dedicated to a new line of electric cars of various sizes. At the same time, the manufacturer announced the first two models that were to ultimately create the Ora brand range.[1]

The iQ crossover was the first model of the brand, combining the features of an SUV with increased ground clearance and a three-box sedan. The sale of the model started in August 2018,[2] while the next design dedicated to the Ora brand was the R1 city car, which is to be one of the cheapest full-value electric passenger cars on the Chinese market at a price of USD 9,000.[3]

A study preview of the third Ora model was presented in June 2019,[4] while the serial model called R2 was presented at the turn of June and July 2020.[5]

In February 2020, Great Wall Motors announced that the Ora brand would no longer be limited to the domestic Chinese market by unveiling the Ora R1 at Auto Expo 2020 in New Delhi, India.[6]
