Toponymy

The village was previously known as Dzhomardlu.

History

The village has an ancient Armenian monastery named the Tanahat Monastery.

Prior to the First Nagorno-Karabakh War, Tanahat was home to 70 Azerbaijani families and had a regular bus service to Baku.[3] The grandfather of the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, was born in this village.

Population

The National Statistical Service of the Republic of Armenia (ARMSTAT) reported its population as 76 in 2010,[4] up from 42 at the 2001 census.[5]
