  • January 3 – The 107th United States Congress begins.
  • January 3 – First Lady Hillary Clinton is sworn in as United States Senator from New York.
  • January 18 – President Clinton delivers his farewell address in the Oval Office.[3]
  • January 20 – President Clinton finishes his time in office and departs the White House with his wife, Hillary Clinton. His successor, George W. Bush, was inaugurated as the 43rd President of the United States, at noon EST. Bill Clinton began his post-presidency.
