1982 New York gubernatorial election

The 1982 New York gubernatorial election was held on November 2, 1982 to elect the Governor and Lieutenant Governor of New York. Incumbent Democratic Governor Hugh Carey chose not to run for a third term. This resulted in an open race for Governor of New York in which Democratic Mario Cuomo narrowly defeated Republican Lewis Lehrman.
