Dias is the current presenter of current affairs program Hack on Australian radio station Triple J. She took over from Tom Tilley, who left the role at the end of 2019.

Dias has been nominated for various journalistic awards, including the Public Interest Award at the New South Wales Premier's Multicultural Communications Awards in 2019, and Young Australian Journalist of the Year and Radio/Audio News and Current Affairs Award at the Walkley Awards in 2019 and 2020, respectively.

Biography

Early life and education

Avani Dias was born in 1990 or 1991[1] in Wattle Grove, New South Wales.[2] Dias grew up in the south west of Sydney, Australia.[3]

Dias completed her tertiary education at the University of Sydney. In 2013, she was elected as one of ten editors for the university's student newspaper Honi Soit.[4]

Career

Dias began her career with FBi Radio, which she credits as giving her "a start in media".[5] Dias began working at the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) as a production assistant, before being awarded a traineeship with ABC News in 2015.[6]

Dias additionally wrote for The New Daily from 2015 to 2017.[7]
