Broadcasting since 2005 in Bellingham, WA; The station began as part of the Spark Museum of Electrical Invention developing a rich collection of local and cultural media. The station initially broadcast music and programming from the Golden Age of radio – the 1920s through the advent of television, but evolved to share programming on a wide range of diverse topics.[4]
As a community-oriented, low-power radio licensee, it was important for the station to show its commitment to Local Stories, and has become a communication resource for many local organizations providing a platform for people. Today, KMRE continues as an all-volunteer, listener supported, independent community media organization, focusing on enabling un-served and under-served voices and giving them a place to be heard in part by Kulshan Community Media.[5]
