1993 riots

From mid-May to June 1993, Renshou County was the site of mass anti-tax riots, where up to 10,000 peasants protested tax measures by the local government.[2] Causes cited for the riots include an increase in taxes and fees, failure of local officials to pay for grain collection, and the generally low income of rural residents in the area.[3]

Tianfu New Area

In recent years, Renshou County has integrated into half-hour Economic Circle. The distance from its downtown to Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan Province, is 60 kilometers, and 70 kilometers to Shuangliu International Airport. By 2017, the “4321”back-bone traffic pattern will form, including 4 expressways through Renshou: Chengdu-Chishui Expressway, Suining-Ziyang-Meishan Expressway, Loop Expressway of Chengdu Economic Zone and Renshou-Muchuan Expressway; 3 city arterial roads from Chengdu to Renshou: Tianfu Renshou Avenue, Zhanhua Road Stretching Line and Hongxing Road Stretching Line; 2 national and provincial roads—National Road 213, Provincial Road 106; and 1 railway: Lianjie-Wangyang-Yangang Railway. Renshou County has become the most important traffic node to the south of Chengdu. Grasping this opportunity of creating Tianfu New Area, Renshou County Party Committee and County Government put forward the idea of “integrating into Chengdu for overall development, linking industrialization, agriculture industrialization, and urbanization to enrich people and strengthen the county.” The government begins implementing the Tianfu New Area strategy in the whole area of Renshou, insisting on the strategy of “taking the county area as the lead and four districts as support, making breakthrough in ten aspects to get overall development”, to create a model county for Sichuan province.
