In 2010, The LEGO Group announced a partnership with The Walt Disney Company and Pixar. It was officially announced by The LEGO Group that the four sets based on the Cars film would be released on 4 June 2010 as a sub-brand of the Duplo theme. The four sets being released were Lightning McQueen (set number: 5813),[10] Mater's Yard (set number: 5814),[10] Flo's V-8 Cafe (set number: 5815)[10] and Mack's Road Trip! (set number: 5816). In 2011, the six sets would be released on 12 May 2011. The six sets being released were Agent Mater (set number: 5817), Luigi's Italian Place (set number: 5818), Tokyo Racing (set number: 5819),[11] Big Bentley (set number: 5828), The Pit Shop (set number: 5829) and World Grand Prix (set number: 5839).[11] In 2012, the three sets[12] would be released on 24 July 2012. The three sets being released were Red (set number: 6132),[12] Race Day (set number: 6133)[12] and Siddeley Saves the Day (set number: 6134).[12] In 2015, Classic Race (set number: 10600) would be released on 1 January 2015. Each of the sets featured ten core characters, named Doc Hudson, Guido, Fillmore, Flo, Luigi, Lightning McQueen, Mater, Red, Sally Carrera and Sheriff. It's also designed primarily for children aged 2 to 5 years old.

In 2011, it was officially announced that the fourteen sets[13][14] based on the Cars 2 film would be released on 12 May 2011. The fourteen sets[15] being released were Radiator Springs Lightning McQueen (set number: 8200), Radiator Springs Classic Mater (set number: 8201), Tokyo Pit Stop (set number: 8206),[16] World Grand Prix Racing Rivalry (set number: 8423),[16] Mater's Spy Zone (set number: 8424), Escape At Sea (set number: 8426), Ultimate Build Lightning McQueen (set number: 8484), Mack's Team Truck (set number: 8486),[16][17] Flo's V8 Café (set number: 8487),[16] Spy Jet Escape (set number: 8638),[16] Big Bentley Bust Out (set number: 8639), Ultimate Build Mater (set number: 8677),[16] Ultimate Build Francesco (set number: 8678) and Tokyo International Circuit (set number: 8679).[16] Later, the eight sets would be released on 16 December 2011. The eight sets being released were Francesco Bernoulli (set number: 9478), Ivan Mater (set number: 9479), Finn McMissile (set number: 9480), Jeff Gorvette (set number: 9481), Agent Mater's Escape (set number: 9483), Red's Water Rescue (set number: 9484), Ultimate Race Set (set number: 9485) and Oil Rig Escape (set number: 9486). In addition, the three polypag sets have been released as a promotions are Guido (set number: 30120),[18][19] Grem (set number: 30121)[20][21] and "Torque" Redline Promotional Set.[lower-alpha 1] Each of the sets featured the new characters named Acer, Battleboat, Carla Veloso, Crane, Francesco Bernoulli, Finn McMissile, Holley Shiftwell, Jeff Gorvette, Grem, Leland Turbo cube, Miles Axlerod, Professor Zundapp, Pit Crew Helper, Rod "Torque" Redline, Raoule CaRoule, Max Schnell, Shu Todoroki, The Queen and Tony Trihull. It's also designed primarily for children aged 5 to 12 years old.

In 2017, the seven sets[22][23][24] based on the Cars 3 film would be released on 2 May 2017 as a sub-brand of the Lego Juniors theme. The seven sets[25][26][27][28] being released were Lightning McQueen Speed Launcher (set number: 10730),[29] Cruz Ramirez Race Simulator (set number: 10731),[29] Guido and Luigi's Pit Stop (set number: 10732),[29] Mater's Junkyard (set number: 10733),[29] Willy's Butte Speed Training (set number: 10742),[29] Smokey's Garage (set number: 10743)[29] and Thunder Hollow Crazy 8 Race (set number: 10744).[29] Later, Florida 500 Final Race (set number: 10745)[30][31] would be released on 1 August 2017. Each of the sets featured the new characters named Broadside, Crus Ramirez, Junior Moon, Jack Storm, Miss Fritter and Smokey. Each of the sets features special bricks to make builds look more realistic yet uses fewer pieces for an easier build and is designed for children aged 4–7. Additional three sets[32] were also released on as a sub-brand of the Duplo theme. The 3 sets being released were Flo's Café (set number: 10846),[32] Mater's Shed (set number: 10856)[32] and Piston Cup Race (set number: 10857).[32] It's also designed primarily for children aged 5 to 12 years old. Later, it was announced that the theme would be discontinued and no longer be available at LEGO Store or online shop.

Cars 3 As Told By LEGO Bricks released a short film via YouTube, on December 21, 2017, that is inspired by both the Cars animated series.[49]

BBC, Disney and LEGO released a short film via YouTube, on April 13, 2018, that is inspired by both the Cars animated series as well as the popular TV series Top Gear. The film tells the story of Lightning McQueen's trip to the Top Gear track, where he achieves his dream of racing against the Stig.[50][51][52]
