Serbia in the Eurovision Song Contest 2012

Serbia participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2012 in Baku, Azerbaijan. The Serbian entry was selected through an internal selection, organised by the Serbian broadcaster RTS. Željko Joksimović represented Serbia with the song "Nije Ljubav Stvar" (Није љубав ствар), which qualified from the second semi-final and went on to place 3rd in the final, scoring 214 points.[1][2]

Before Eurovision

Internal selection

RTS internally selected the Serbian entry for the Eurovision Song Contest 2012. The name of the artist to represent Serbia, Željko Joksimović, was confirmed by RTS on 18 November 2011.[3] Joksimović previously represented Serbia and Montenegro in the Eurovision Song Contest 2004 as well as having composed the Bosnian entry in the Eurovision Song Contest 2006 "Lejla" and the Serbian entry in the Eurovision Song Contest 2008 "Oro". Joksimović also co-presented the Eurovision Song Contest 2008 alongside Jovana Janković.

The song Joksimović would perform at the Eurovision Song Contest, titled "Nije ljubav stvar", was presented in a show titled Evropska pesma (European song) which took place on 10 March 2012. The show was broadcast on RTS1, RTS Satelit as well as streamed online via the broadcaster's website rts.rs and the official Eurovision Song Contest website eurovision.tv. An English language version of the entry titled "Synonym" was also performed during the show.[2] Singers Jelena Tomašević, Bora Dugić, Ivan Bosiljčić, Hari Mata Hari and Halid Bešlić were featured as guests during the show.[4]

At Eurovision

Serbia competed in the first half of the second semi-final (1st on stage), on 24 May 2012, opening the show and preceding Macedonia. Željko Joksimović received 159 points and placed 2nd, thus qualifying for the final on 26 May.[5]

In the final, Serbia was drawn to perform 24th, after Ireland and preceding Ukraine. The Serbian entry scored a total of 214 points and placed 3rd in the final.[1]

  • In the Semi-final Serbia came 2nd with 159 points: the public awarded Serbia 2nd place with 148 points and the jury awarded 2nd place with 141 points.[6]
  • In the Final Serbia came 3rd with 214 points: the public awarded Serbia 3rd place with 211 points and the jury awarded 2nd place with 173 points.[6]
