Toyota Innova

The Innova is powered by either a 2.0-litre petrol 136 PS (100 kW) 1TR-FE VVT-i, a 2.7-litre petrol 160 PS (118 kW) 2TR-FE VVT-i, or a 2.5-litre 102 PS (75 kW) 2KD-FTV D-4D common rail turbocharged diesel engine. Trim levels are J, E, G, and V. The 2.7-litre unit is only offered for the V trim, paired solely with 4-speed automatic transmission.

The 2.7-litre petrol engine was dropped from the Indonesian market in 2007 due to low demand. The diesel variants use a turbocharged 2KD-FTV engine which produces 102 hp (76 kW) and 260 N⋅m (190 lb⋅ft) of torque when mated to the four-speed automatic transmission and 200 N⋅m (150 lb⋅ft) when mated to the five-speed manual. Petrol versions are also available in five-speed manual or four-speed automatic versions. All variants is only available with rear-wheel drive configuration.

In early 2007, the engines on the Indonesian market Kijang Innova were updated to comply with the Euro 2 emission standards. It received a catalytic converter and the injection system was changed to a closed loop system. The Innova also received a front mesh grille. The E trim of the Kijang Innova received double blower air conditioner, while the G trim received 2 DIN CD and cassette player.

The facelifted Innova was first spotted in Indonesia and launched on 26 August 2008. It featured a redesigned front and rear bumper, front grille, and rear tail lamps. The V trim use updated wheels, while the previous wheels used on the pre-facelift model V trim were installed on the G trim. This model also features automatic climate control, side door impact beams, as well as new extras such as parking sensors and an in-dash CD changer.[2] The facelifted Innova was launched in the Philippines in November 2008 and in India on 28 January 2009. In Indonesia, the facelifted versions include the E trim, which now features the parts from the pre-facelift G trim.

On 22 July 2011, PT Toyota-Astra Motor launched the second facelift of the Innova, which was marketed as the Grand New Kijang Innova. It featured redesigned headlights, grille, bonnet, bumpers and tail lights. The interior is updated with a new steering wheel, new air-conditioning knobs (for non V variants), and a revised center dashboard. For the Indonesian market only, the V trim used updated wheels (later used on all variants in some export markets), while the previous wheels used on the first facelift model V trim were installed on the E and G trims.

On 19 August 2013, PT Toyota-Astra Motor launched the third facelift of the Innova, which is known as the New Kijang Innova. Changes consist of a larger grille, redesigned bumpers and a new trunk garnish exclusive to the E, G and V trims.[3] A four-spoke steering wheel and dual airbags are also standard features on this model.[4] In August 2014, for the 2015 model year, the Kijang Innova was updated again with the redesigned wheels exclusive to the G, V and Luxury trims (also used on the E trim in some export markets), while the previous wheels used on the second facelift model V trim were installed on the E trim. The Luxury trims were received a redesigned rear bumper. All 2015 models received a new darker Silver Metallic colour option.

In India, the Innova is available with twelve variants. Three variants of the Innova come with a petrol engine option which is powered by a 1,998 cc, 1TR-FE, petrol, inline four-cylinder petrol engine with electronic fuel injection. The diesel variants of the Innova are powered by 2,494 cc, 2KD-FTV diesel with intercooler and turbocharger four-cylinder engine. In 2012, Toyota Bharat introduced a new grade "Z" in India which is placed above the VX grade—making it the most expensive trim in the entire line up. The available grades are E, G, GX, VX and Z.

The first generation Innova received an update for the Indian market in 2015.[5] With this update, all variants gained dual airbags and there were cosmetic changes such as the inclusion of dark grey two-tone alloy wheels, wood finished steering wheel, redesigned leather seats, and a new oak interior colour.[6] Rear HVAC outlets were also specified as standard as part of this update.[7]

Sold as the Kijang Innova, trim levels are J Business, J, E, G and V, as well as G Luxury and V Luxury.

This generation has been facelifted three times:

• 2008: Updated front bumper and grille design, rear lamps and bumpers, and redesigned the wheels (V trim only, G trim use the wheels from the pre-facelift V trim). Two-tone interior colour (grey and beige) is now a standard. The E trim received double blower AC.
• 2011: Updated front and rear fascia (such as lamps, bumpers and grille) and redesigned the wheels (V trim only, G trim use the wheels from the first facelift V trim). The E trim received alloy wheels (shared the same design with G trim), while the J trim received center caps. The steering wheel design is now changed. The center dashboard fascia has freshened design and add more features such as sat-nav, cameras, etc. A rear wiper is now a standard.
• 2013: Redesigned the front bumper, rear bumper and grille and added rear ornaments (not available for J trim). ABS, four-spoke steering wheel, rear blower and dual SRS airbags is now a standard. From 2014, the G and V trims, as well as the Luxury variants received two-tone wheel colour and new aerokit. Interior colour was changed to black and grey.

The Innova was launched on 27 May 2005 replacing the Unser. The Innova is currently offered in two variants: the 2.0E and the 2.0G. Either of them are powered by the 1TR-FE 2.0-litre engine with VVT-i. The powertrains available are either a five-speed manual or a four-speed automatic with ECT.

Interior

The Innova was introduced in 2005 to replace the Toyota Revo. Trim levels include the J, the E (mid-level model with power features, airbags, and only available with a diesel engine, but a petrol engine variant was added for MY 2008), the G (middle model with carry over features from the E trim but with leather seats and interiors), and the V (high end model, which was introduced in the last quarter of 2006 and only available with an automatic transmission, captains chairs on the middle row, and high end audio system). It is used as a taxicab by the Ninoy Aquino International Airport's coupon taxi companies in Metro Manila, Metered taxicab in Baguio City and Cagayan De Oro and as a patrol vehicle by the Philippine National Police. An upgraded version of the Innova E trim was called the Sport Runner. It is only available with a 2.5-litre 2KD-FTV turbocharged diesel engine and was offered with either automatic or manual transmission.[8] It was offered until early 2012 and in that same year, a facelifted version of the Innova was launched, featuring a redesigned front bumper, headlights, and taillights. The only difference is that the E trim offers Twilight Blue colour. In early 2014, another facelifted version of the Innova was launched; a redesigned front bumper and tailgate were featured. An additional colour, Dark Brown Metallic, was available in E, G and V trims. The V trim received GPS navigation. In June 2015, TMP offered a limited edition 1 Million Innova with GPS navigation, rear spoiler and 1 Million badge, and it has a special Jade Green Metallic exterior colour.[9]

The Innova was introduced in its second facelift form in October 2011, sitting in between the Verso and the smaller Avanza.[10] Equipped with a 2.7 L 2TR-FE engine mated exclusively to a 5-speed manual, standard equipment varied with seating configuration with the more premium seven seater variant adding alloy rims, a reverse camera and leather on the seats, shifter and steering wheel while the eight seater variant comes with cloth seating and steel rims. Anti-lock brakes, fog lamps, front airbags, steering wheel audio controls, touch screen infotainment with bluetooth connectivity, power windows, and power steering were standard equipment for both models.[11] The model would not get replaced upon its discontinuation due to poor sales and slumping demand for MPVs in the South African market.[12]

The Innova is produced locally and was the first product of Toyota Motor Vietnam (TMV), introduced in January 2006. It is a commonly used as a taxi in Vietnam.

For the Indian market, Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) showcased the second generation Innova at Auto Expo in February 2016. Called the Innova Crysta, the all-new model of the car was launched in May 2016.[15] Exclusive for this model is a 2.8-litre 1GD-FTV inline-four turbocharged diesel engine producing 132 kW (177 hp) and 266 lb⋅ft (360 N⋅m). Features include cruise control, leather seats, powered seats and a powered boot lid.[16] The Innova launched in May 2016 as with two diesel engine options: the 2.8-litre 1GD-FTV diesel and the 2.4-litre 2GD-FTV diesel. The 2.8-litre engine gets the six-speed automatic transmission with sequential shift while the 2.4-litre gets the five-speed manual transmission.[17] In August 2016, Toyota Bharat launched the petrol powered Innova Crysta with a 2.7-litre 2TR-FE petrol I4 engine producing 160 hp (120 kW) and 181 lbf·ft (246 N·m). The petrol engine is mated with either a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission with sequential shift according to different trim levels.

The Indian specification AN140 employs a double wishbone suspension with coil springs and stabilizer up front and a four-link with coil spring and lateral road suspension at the rear. The low end variants ride on 16-inch alloy wheels, while the top-end variant receives 17-inch alloy wheels.[18]

Trim levels are G, V and Z. The Z trim is the highest and most expensive trim level. In 2018, Toyota launched the Innova Touring Sport based on the Innova Venturer and was updated with 6-speed manual transmission. As of 2019, the Touring Sport is the top-of-the-line trim level in the Indian lineup of Innova.

In 2020, the 2.8-litre 1GD-FTV engine was discontinued for the Indian market due to the implementation of Bharat Stage 6 emission standard.[19] The 2.8-litre automatic variant was subsequently replaced with the 2.4-litre automatic variant. However, the 2.4-litre 2GD-FTV diesel in the automatic variant produces the same torque of 360 N⋅m (266 ft⋅lb) that the 2.8-litre automatic produced and the 2.4-litre manual produces the same torque of 343 N⋅m (253 ft⋅lb) that the 2.8-litre manual produced. To comply with the Bharat Stage 6 emission norms, the engine is equipped with a DPF + SCR system for exhaust after-treatment and mandates the use of diesel exhaust fluid.

The AN140 Innova was launched for the first time in the country on 23 November 2015. Trim levels of the Indonesian market Kijang Innova are the base G, the mid-level V and the flagship Q trim.[20] As the Innova is moving up-class to make room for the Sienta, the J, E and Luxury variant of G and V trim from the previous generation was removed.

The G and V trims are equipped with standard halogen headlamps with reflector, while the Q trim has LED projector headlamps and LED daytime running lights. All trim levels are equipped with 16-inch alloy wheels as standard. Only the 2.4 Q has 17-inch alloy wheels.[21]

All trim levels have multi information display (monochrome for G and TFT screen for V and Q), parking camera, driving mode selector (Eco & Power mode), triple blower air conditioning, steering-mounted audio control, 6 speakers, chilled glove box and a tilt-telescopic steering system as standard. The G trim has a 2-DIN audio system with 7-inch touchscreen monitor, while the V and Q trims are equipped with 8-inch monitor. V and Q audio systems are enhanced with Miracast, DLNA, Wi-Fi, internet browser, Toyota Move application and GPS navigation system. Automatic single zone climate control AC is available as standard for V and Q trims. The G and V trims has copper brown interior colour with faux aluminium panel, while the Q trim has full black interior colour, wood panel and captain seats as standard. The start-stop engine button and follow me home function are only available in the Q trim. Emergency brake signal, vehicle stability control and hill-start assist are exclusive for the Q diesel trim. These features are not present in the Q petrol.[20]

The engine variants in the Indonesian market are the 2.0-litre 1TR-FE petrol and 2.4-litre 2GD-FTV common rail diesel. The 2.4-litre 2GD-FTV diesel engine generates 149 PS (110 kW) and 36.7 kg⋅m (360 N⋅m) of torque when mated to the six-speed automatic transmission and 34.9 kg⋅m (342 N⋅m) of torque when mated to the five-speed manual.[20] The 2.7-litre 2TR-FE is not offered in the domestic market due to low demand, and the 2.8-litre 1GD-FTV is not offered in the country due to the 125 percent luxury goods tax imposed to non-commercial diesel vehicle with engine capacity larger than 2.5-litre.

The flagship variant of the Kijang Innova, called the Venturer, was launched in Indonesia on 16 January 2017. It replaced the Q diesel trim. The "Venturer" trim imitates a crossover SUV look by applying black plastic moulding around the wheel arch, black front bumper spoiler with chrome plating, front grille ornament, black plastic side skirt with chrome plating, piano black painted grille, rear door garnish, rear bumper lower spoiler and piano black 17-inch alloy wheels. It is also equipped with black leather seats and captain seats. The "Venturer" also has the special colour "red mica metallic".[22]

On 10 August 2017, the Kijang Innova received an update. For the G trim, the plastic grille ornament was replaced with a chrome grille ornament. The V trim received LED projector headlamps. Both Q trim and Venturer received an 8-inch rear monitor and auto folding outer mirror, with the 2.0 Q trim received 17-inch alloy wheels from the discontinued Q diesel trim. This updated Kijang Innova was introduced at the 25th Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show.

On 2 August 2018, the petrol engine on the Kijang Innova was updated again to comply with the Euro 4 emission standards. Along with the updated petrol engine, the V trim received an 8-inch rear monitor and the same 8-inch monitor that is also installed on the Q trim and Venturer. This was introduced during the 26th Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show.[23]

On 17 August 2020, the TRD Sportivo model based on the G and V diesel trim was introduced.[24] It was made available in 2,633 units.

The facelift model of the Kijang Innova was released on 15 October 2020.[25] The Q trim was removed from the lineup and replaced by the Luxury variant of G and V trims with captain seats and integrated air purifier (also installed on the Venturer). It also marked the revival of Luxury variant of G and V trims, after five year and 11-months hiatus. Vehicle stability control and hill-start assist became standard on all trims.

The AN140 Innova was launched in Malaysia on 5 December 2016. It is assembled by UMW Toyota Motor at its Shah Alam facility in Malaysia. It is available in E and G trim levels.[26]

In September 2017, UMW Toyota announced a new variant, the 2.0X to become the range-topper in the Innova line-up with addition of LED headlights, larger alloy wheels, seven-seater rather than an eight with leather upholstery and six-way powered driver's seat.[27]

The facelifted Innova was launched in Malaysia on 2 February 2021. Trim levels remained the same as the pre-facelift model.[28]

The second generation Innova (AN140) was launched in the Philippine market on 26 February 2016.[29] Standard trim levels include the base J, the mid-level E, the higher-spec G and the top-of-the-line V. A special variant called the Touring Sport is also available based on the E trim.

All trim levels are powered by a 2.8-litre 1GD-FTV turbocharged four cylinder diesel engine, rated at 171 PS (126 kW) and 360 N⋅m (270 lb⋅ft) of torque (which replaced the old 2KD-FTV), or a 2.0-litre 1TR-FE four-cylinder petrol engine with 136 PS (100 kW) and 183 N⋅m (135 lb⋅ft) of torque, mated to either a 5-speed manual or a new 6-speed automatic transmission with sequential shift. It also gets power and economy modes as new features. The base J trim up to the G trim comes equipped with standard halogen headlamps and keyless entry (smoked halogen headlamps on the Touring Sport), while the V trim gets LED projector headlamps and LED daytime running lights and captain seats, as well as a push engine start/stop button. A 2-DIN audio system is standard on the J and E trims, while the G and V trims, as well as the Touring Sport variant, features a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with navigation. The J trim is equipped with 16-inch steel wheels with hub caps while the E and G trims gets a 16-inch 5-spoke alloy wheels, the V trim gets 17-inch alloy wheels, while the Touring Sport gets the same wheels size and design from the E and G trims but with a colour black schemed design.[30]

The AN140 Innova rolled off Toyota's assembly plant in Santa Rosa, Laguna on 14 April 2016[31] and went on sale across Toyota's Philippine dealerships a few days later.

Al Futtaim Motors, the distributor of Toyota in UAE, launched the AN140 on 6 April 2016. The UAE-specification is powered by the 2.7-litre 2TR-FE engine producing 122 kW (164 hp) and 180 lb⋅ft (250 N⋅m) of torque. It is available exclusively with the six-speed automatic transmission.[32]

The AN140 is marketed in Thailand as the Innova Crysta. The trim levels are 2.0 E, 2.8 G diesel and 2.8 V diesel.[33] The units are imported from Indonesia.

In November 2020, the facelift model of the Thai-market Innova was launched. It is available in 2.0 Entry, 2.8 Crysta and 2.8 Crysta Premium trim levels.[34]

On 18 July 2016, the AN140 Innova was launched in Vietnam and its powered by a 2.0-litre 1TR-FE as an only petrol engine option. It is produced in Vĩnh Phúc and is available in E, G and V trim levels.[35]
