Early life and education

Pfluger's four-times-great-grandfather, Henry Pfluger Sr., founded Pflugerville, Texas.[2] His maternal grandfather, a member of the United States Army Air Corps in World War II, inspired Pfluger to become a pilot.[2]

Pfluger attended Central High School in San Angelo, Texas, where he played for the school's football team as a quarterback.[3][4] He is an Eagle Scout.[5] He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in political science from the United States Air Force Academy.[6] Pfluger then earned a Master of Science degree in aeronautical science from Embry–Riddle Aeronautical University, a Master of Science in military and operations science from Air University, and a Master of Science in international business and policy from Georgetown University.[2]

Military service

Pfluger earned his commission to the United States Air Force in 2000.[2] He served in active duty for 20 years, flying F-22 fighter jets and eventually reaching the rank of lieutenant colonel. He remained in the United States Air Force Reserve after retiring from active duty.[7] Pfluger served on the United States National Security Council (NSC) for three months during the presidency of Donald Trump.[8]

U.S. House of Representatives

2020

Pfluger resigned from the NSC to run for the United States House of Representatives for Texas's 11th congressional district in the 2020 elections.[8] Fellow Republican Mike Conaway, who had represented the district since its creation in 2005, was retiring after eight terms.

Pfluger won a crowded 10-way Republican Party primary–the real contest in this heavily Republican district–to become the Republican nominee.[9][10] He faced Democrat Jon Mark Hogg and Libertarian Wacey Alpha Cody in the November general election.[2]

Pfluger easily defeated Hogg in the general election;[11][12] the 11th is so heavily Republican that Pfluger effectively assured himself of being the district's next congressman in his primary victory. Hogg was only the fifth Democrat to run in this district; only one Democrat has managed even 20 percent of the vote.

Tenure

Pfluger took office on January 3, 2021. Three days later, on January 6, 2021, Pfluger cast a vote to prevent the certification of the Electoral College in Arizona and Pennsylvania.[13]

Personal life

Pfluger and his wife, Camille (née Cole), have three daughters.[6][5] They live in San Angelo, Texas.[16]
