Slovenia in the Eurovision Song Contest 2007

Slovenia selected their entry for the Eurovision Song Contest 2007 on 3 February 2007 using EMA 2007. After two semi-finals, a final, and a superfinal, Slovenia chose Alenka Gotar to fly the flag in Helsinki with the song "Cvet z juga". The song is written and composed by Andrej Babić and Aleksandra Valenčić.

Prior to the contest, Alenka visited Spain's national selection along with six other Eurovision hopefuls. It has been confirmed by Alenka that the song will in fact be sung Slovene for the performance in Eurovision. The song qualified from the semi-finals, finishing in seventh place with 140 points. In the final, Gotar finished in fifteenth position with 66 points.

Before Eurovision

EMA 2007

EMA 2007 was the 12th edition of the Slovenian national final format Evrovizijska Melodija (EMA). The competition was organised by RTV Slovenija to select Slovenia's entry for the Eurovision Song Contest 2007.

Competing entries

Artists and composers were able to submit their entries to the broadcaster until 3 December 2006. 91 entries were received by the broadcaster during the submission period. An expert committee consisting of Miša Čermak, Alenka Godec, Vojko Sfiligoj, Patrik Greblo selected twenty-three artists and songs for the competition from the received submissions. An additional spot was reserved for Eva Černe, winner of the RTV Slovenija talent show Bitka Talentov (Battle of talents).

Final

The final of EMA 2007 took place on 3 February 2007. The winner was selected over two rounds of public televoting. In the first round, the top two entries were selected to proceed to the superfinal: "Cvet z juga" performed by Alenka Gotar and "Čudeži smehljaja" performed by Eva Černe. In the superfinal, "Cvet z juga" performed by Alenka Gotar was selected as the winner.

At Eurovision

As Slovenia failed to qualify from the semi-final for the third time in a row, Alenka had to compete in the semi-final on 10 May. Slovenia performed 25th, following Belgium and preceding the Turkey. Country qualified to the final, placing 7th in the semi-final and scoring 140 points. In the final she performed 7th, following Macedonia and preceding Hungary. They scored 66 points, which placed them 15th.
