British Army Structure In 2010

Army 2020 was announced in parliament in November that year which would see a massive re-organisation of the British Army. After many lessons and Operation Herrick, the higher command sought to make an army that was 'prepared for the future'.[1]

Below is the structure of the British Army just before the Army 2020 announcement. Units listed will be shown as such: Name, Corps, at barracks/HQ location (role/type, equipment).

  • Headquarters Theatre Troops, based at Trenchard Lines, Upavon (Headquarters Theatre Troops was formed on 31 August 2001 and provides the essential 'capabilities' - such as Intelligence, Surveillance, Target Acquisition and Reconnaissance (ISTAR), deep strike, specialist engineers, communications, medical support, air defence and logistic re-supply - without which no UK military operation can be successfully mounted.)[31]
