Production

Development

In January 2020, Star Plus planned an official Hindi remake of Star Vijay's Tamil series Pandian Stores to be produced by Mahesh Pandey Productions under the title Khandaan (translation: Family).[5][6] With a change in title to Hum -Ek Makan Ek Dukaan (translation:We - one house one shop) the filming began in February 2020 with few portion shot at Varanasi but was soon halted in March 2020 due to Covid-19 pandemic.[7] However, after the Covid-19 lockdown, the series was shifted to Star Bharat. Later, Star Bharat changed its programming genre to comedy from drama due to which it was scrapped and the plot was changed completely to suit it.[8][9] The filming began in July 2020 post Covid-19 break and show was aired with the changed title Gupta Brothers from 5 October 2020, not being a remake.[10][11] But due to low response from the audience towards it’s comedy genre, its genre was again changed to drama in few weeks with its few plot lines being loyal to the plot of Pandian Stores.[12][13] However, with its very low ratings, it was off aired within three months on 26 January 2021.[14] However, in December 2020, Star Plus announced the proper remake of Pandian Stores as Pandya Store produced by Sphere Origins which premiered on 25 January 2021.[15][16] The production of the series began in December 2020.[17]

Training

The lead Kinshuk Mahajan lost 5 kg for his role, worked on his dialect as his character being a Gujarati one and also attended various workshops for training along with lead Shiny Doshi and the other cast.[18] Deven Bhojani was roped as the creative consultant for the series in January 2021.[19]

Release

The first promo of the series was released on 26 December 2020 featuring the leads Shiny Doshi and Kinshuk Mahajan.[20]

Filming

Based on backdrop of Somnath in Gujarat, the series is mainly filmed at sets in Mumbai. Besides, some initial sequences were shot at Somnath and Bikaner in Rajasthan.[21][22]
