History

The original Kebun Baru SMC was carved from the now-defunct Ang Mo Kio Single Member Constituency in 1980. It was helmed by Lim Boon Heng throughout its short-lived 11-year existence. It was absorbed into the new Ang Mo Kio Group Representation Constituency prior to the 1991 general election.

Following the release of the Electoral Boundaries Review Committee's (EBRC) report on 13 March 2020, it was announced that a new SMC, Kebun Baru SMC, would be formed, in preparation for the 2020 general election. However, it would be carved out from Nee Soon GRC. It was originally existent between 1980 and 1991. After a hiatus of 29 years, it was re-introduced for the 2020 general election.[1]The constituency has since returned to Ang Mo Kio Town Council after almost 5 years with Nee Soon Town Council.

People's Action Party Henry Kwek defeated Progress Singapore Party Kumaran Pillai with a vote count of 62.97% vs 37.03%, which made Henry Kwek the incumbent MP for Kebun Baru.

Kebun Baru SMC with Ang Mo Kio GRC & Yio Chu Kang SMC are under the same town council, Ang Mo Kio Town Council.
