Two ship′s boats  France A barge and two longboats, operating as part of the La Perouse Expedition, were swept into a tidal bore during an ebb tide near the entrance to Lituya Bay in southeastern Russian America. Two of the craft were wrecked, killing all 21 men aboard them; their bodies were not recovered. The third craft escaped.[58]
