National Institute of Industrial Engineering
National Institute of Industrial Engineering (NITIE), formerly National Institute for Training in Industrial Engineering, is a post graduate, public management institute located in Powai near Vihar Lake in Mumbai, and was ranked among the top 15 B-Schools of India as per NIRF 2020 rankings.[1]

History
National Institute of Industrial Engineering (NITIE) was established by the Government of India in 1963 with the assistance of United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) through the International Labour Organization (ILO) to create skilled professionals. It was funded by the Government of India and registered as a society under the Societies Registration Act, 1860.[2]
The institute was formerly known as the 'National Institute of Training in Industrial Engineering'. Later, the word 'Training' was removed and was rechristened 'National Institute of Industrial Engineering'.
Noted industrialist Anand Mahindra and HDFC chairman Deepak Parekh had suggested, in 2007, the change in name of NITIE to an IIM, Mumbai. The then Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh had promised to look into the issue. But no work has progressed in this direction till date.[3]
Academics

Annually, NITIE trains over 2000 professionals through its various week long Management Development Programs (MDPs) and the unit based programs (UBPs) in different areas of Industrial Engineering & Management.[4]

Post Graduate Diploma in Industrial Engineering (PGDIE) PGDIE is one of the very few courses that enjoy corporate excellence for over four decades. Its inception is to provide students with methodologies and systematic approaches to deal with diverse industrial challenges, PGDIE has evolved as a course for developing Managers with cross-functional skills.
Post Graduate Diploma in Industrial Management (PGDIM) Post Graduate Diploma in Industrial Management (PGDIM) program of NITIE is rated as one of the top-class management courses offered at Indian institutions. This two-year, full time and completely residential program attract talents from all parts of the country. The diverse group of students who join this program is all engineers and a significant majority come with two to three years of work experience in business and industry.
Post Graduate Diploma in Project Management (PGDPM) The PGDPM program is for those who wish to move into project management, either in the technical or business field or into a new field of expertise. It is suitable for those with work experience as well as those with little or no background in business or industry.
Post Graduate Diploma in Manufacturing Management (PGDMM) NITIE offers a two-year full Post Graduate Manufacturing Management Program that will facilitate students in developing their skills and decision-making capabilities in the manufacturing domain giving them a cutting edge in executing the business strategy at the manufacturing function level. It would also help in exploiting the manufacturing capability from the business competitiveness point of view. The program aims at creating professionals equipped to meet the challenges in manufacturing management.
Post Graduate Diploma in Industrial Safety & Environment Management (PGDISEM) PGDISEM is a sustainability-based program and focuses on a People Planet and Profit approach. This program cultivates future business leaders who will join the workforce with a broad understanding of the complex relationships Business has with nature and various stakeholders. The PGDISEM curriculum encompasses both managerial and technical perspectives. It introduces students to a systemic approach for the evaluation of environmental, social and economic impacts.
Post Graduate Program for Executives (PGPEX-VLFM) PGPEX – VLFM is a one-year residential program jointly conducted by NITIE Mumbai and IIT Delhi for grooming the emerging leaders for Mid and Senior Level Managerial roles. The program is designed for peer learning driven pedagogy with a strong focus on manufacturing technology, process, and leadership. The products of this program shall be the change agents, who would provide the strategic impetus over a wide range of verticals such as Operation & Supply chain management, Strategic planning, Business development, Digital transformation & World-class manufacturing.
Fellow NITIE offers a Doctoral Level Fellowship Programme recognized by the Ministry of HRD as equivalent to a PhD of any Indian University. It is a program aimed at shaping individuals such that they become competent enough for a career in academics, research, business, and consulting. The Fellow Programme of NITIE was started in the year 1984. The program is interdisciplinary in nature, covering all areas as mentioned below. The alumni of our Fellowship Programme are well placed in academics and industry.[4]

Placements
For the batch of 2020, Highest salary offered in NITIE Mumbai placement - INR 58.24 lakhs per annum. The average salary offered increased to Rs. 20.88 lakhs from Rs. 19.77 lakhs in the previous year, whereas the average salary for the top 10% of the batch was Rs. 36.80 lakhs. This placement season saw participation from 121 companies on campus to hire the 414 participants from the class of 2020 at NITIE Mumbai. 34% percent of the Class of 2020 received pre-placement offers and pre-placement interviews through their summer internships at top corporate companies. The season saw the return of regular recruiters like Amazon, Deloitte, Flipkart, HUL, ITC, P&G, Philips, PwC US Advisory to name a few. NITIE remained a preferred destination for the recruiters. NITIE added over 20 new recruiters including Ather Energy, Grofers, IDFC First, McKinsey, RBEI, RBL Bank, SAP Labs, Square Yards etc.
Student life
NITIE is known for its popular pedagogy of learning by active selling under the brandname "Mandi". Mandi is an annual event[7] where toys made by NGOs are sold by the students in a street selling exercise and the proceedings are used to educate the children. Mandi is very successful event and also pioneers the concept of 'learning by selling' in post graduate studies. The concept has been replicated by other management institutes across the country such as IIM Bangalore[8]
