Zamania

Zamania is located on the banks of holy river Ganga. According to Hindu Mythology, River Ganga is considered to be flowing from Shiva’s locks and normally it flows from north to south across its entire course but near the city of Zamania, it flows from south to north. It is believed that the river Ganga wanted to pay respect by touching the feet of the Shiva located at the Kashi Vishwanatha Temple and had to change its course.This is the reason Zamania is given more spiritual superiority over other cities like Varanasi. It is divided into two main towns, Zamania Tehsil and Zamania Railway station.Zamania Tahasil is also known as "Zamania Quasba". The Town is mentioned in different holy books of Hinduism. It is believed as the holy place of Hinduism founded by Sri Jamdagni Rishi father of Sri Parshuram (Lord Vishnu). The famous Kamdhenu Cow belongs from this Jamdagni Ashram.

Zamania's Railway station is on the main railway route between New Delhi and Howrah termed as the main market for customers, consumers and suppliers. It is the Economical hub famous for Vegetables, Fruits and Daily Use Items Wholesale market.The Famous Hindu PG College is also situated in Railway Station market which is established in 1942 known as one of the oldest college of Ghazipur. It is one of the most important town of Ghazipur city. A new bridge is under construction near Zamania over the holy river Ganga.

According to Hindu mythology Zamania was the place where Rishi Jamdagni (father of lord Parashurama) had his ashrama.[4] In the reign of Akbar, the Afghan Ali Kuli Khan took over the charge of Ghazipur and developed the town Zamania. After the Death of Aurangzeb this area was taken by zamindar Mansa Ram . Thereafter, Ghazipur came under the suzerainty of the Banaras state and Raja Balwant Singh, the Son of Mansa Ram became the King of Ghazipur .After the attack of Warren Hastings, the then Governor General of the British rule, this area was ruled over by various British rulers. The Lord Cornwallis, who was very famous for reforms in land came to visit this place and accidentally died. In his memory a beautiful tomb which attracts the tourist is also present in Ghazipur City.

This Area is Fertile with Great Freedom fighters. The Hero of Ist Freedom movement ( which is popularly referred to as Sepoy Movement ) Mangal Pandey comes from this soil only. The Famous Nilha Sahib Revolt is Associated with this place where the Farmers revolted against the British & they set on fire various Indigo Godowns. The Ghazipur Plays and has played a major role in India’s Freedom Struggle. Speaking about the present scenario, this town is also known for being the birthplace of Aman Pathan Zamanvi who's a well known social media activist, Poet and Blogger.

As of 2011 India census Zamania had a population of 33,423. Males constitute 52.1% of the population and females 47.89%. Zamania has an average literacy rate of 64.56%, lower than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 72%, and female literacy is 56.46%. In Zamania, 15.72% of the population is under 6 years of age.
