Dirkje Kiers

Dirkje Kiers (born 20 January 1929) was a Dutch kortebaan speed skater from Eernewoude, who was active in the 1940s and 1950s.

Career

In the 1940s and 1950s Kiers won many prizes with speed skating. She won her earliest prizes in December 1946 in Oudebildtzijl[2] and in Berlicum[3] and Kampen in February 1947.[4] In pairs competitions she rode together with Sipke Zijlstra in 1947.[5] During her career she had many podium places, often behind Aaltje Terpstra,[6] Geeske Koopman[7] and Coba Hoekstra.[8] At the end of her career she won the competition in Grouw on 19 February 1956. She won in the final of Jantje Bosscha.[9]

Personal

Kiers married in Eernewoude on 21 May 1953 with F. J. de Vries from Folgere. They were honored by a large amount of known speed skaters.[10]
