When Wester was 15 years old, she rode her first competition in Groningen. She was an active speed skater between 1885 and 1908.[2] In the strong winter of 1890-91 she won in 11 days 10 first prizes and one second prize. She rode together with several people, depicting her superiority.[2]

It is written that Wester had a hard and tough life. She was married twice. Her first marriage was to Tjipke Wijmenga and they had one son. Her second marriage was to Cornelis Laverman. She did very hard work at the farm. Also when her child was 14 weeks old, she already competed in speed skating. She died young on 20 January 1912, aged 41.[2]

Wester was the aunt of speed skater Griet Bijlsma (born 1915).
