Wagenaar rode her first speed skating competition when she was 10 years old, a children's competition on 3 February 1879 in Heerenveen, winning one of the prizes. With her brother Berend she won four times a prize in boys-and-girls competitions in Heerenveen, Gorredijk, Oudeschoot and Langezwaag. In Gorredijk she won a silver haakpen, in Oudeschoot she won a bottle of eau de Cologne. Her actual speed skating career started two years later. In the winter of 1881 she won a competition in Nieuwebrug, Friesland. She competed at individual competitions as pairs competitions. In the pairs competitions she rode together with Gerard Kuiper, Kerst Bottema from Oldeboorn and B. Dekker from Zwolle. She skated around 10 years competitions. She won among others three times the first prize in Franeker and also in Winschoten, Kollum, Leeuwarden, Oldemarkt and Roordahuizum.[1]

It wasn't easy to compete at many competitions in that era. For example a competition she participated in at Winschoten. At 4:00 am she skated 30 kilometre with her brother to Leeuwarden. They took the train to Winschoten. The competition finished at 16:30 pm. They took the train back to Leeuwarden and skated to their home where they arrived somewhere in the night.[1]

She stopped with speed skating when she was around 20 years old. Her mother died and her father didn't want her to continue with speed skating.[1]
