Lien van der Mei

Lien van der Mei sometimes written as Lina van der Mei (born ca. 1925) was a Dutch kortebaan speed skater in the 1940s and 1950s from Langezwaag. She was in her era one of the known women’s kortebaan speed skaters.[1][2][3][4][5]

In the winter of 1940-41 she won, as a young girl of 15/16 years old, a total of 9 prizes including several first prizes. In the winter of 1941-42 she won of the 8 competitions she competed in 4 first prizes and became champion of Overijssel. On 17 January 1942 she won the silver medal at the Dutch National Kortebaan Speed Skating Championships in Kampen behind Fokje van der Velde and finished third at the Frisian Championships. On 29 January 1950 she beat Antje Koopmans in Oosterwolde and Aaltje Kootstra, winning 40 Guilder.[6][7]

Van der Mei has three sister: Zus, Lien and Alie and were known athletes, member of athletics club G.V. Advendo in Langezwaag. Zus van der Mei was also a speed skater, but not at a high level. Although she won several small prizes.[8]
