IPCC Sixth Assessment Report

The Sixth Assessment Report (AR6) of the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), is the sixth in a series of reports intended to assess scientific, technical and socio-economic information concerning climate change.

In April 2016, at the 43th session in Nairobi, Kenya, the topics for Special Reports in the AR6 assessment cycle were decided.[1]

Overview

The sixth report is made up of the reports of three working groups (WG) and a synthesis report.

Planned release date should follow this sequence:

  • Special report on Global warming of 1.5 °C in October 2018
  • Refinement to the 2006 IPCC Guidelines for National Greenhouse Gas Inventories in May 2019
  • Special report on the Climate Change and Land in August 2019
  • Special report on the Ocean and cryosphere in a changing climate in September 2019
  • WGI contribution "The physical science basis" in April 2021[2]
  • WGIII contribution "Mitigation of climate change" in September 2021[3]
  • WGII contribution "Impacts, adaptation and vulnerability" in October 2021[4]
  • Synthesis Report in May 2022[1]
