Procurement

Due to the ongoing South China Sea dispute, the Indonesian Army has ordered 8 Boeing AH-64 Apache attack helicopters. The procurement would also include APG-78 Longbow Fire Control Radars and 140 AGM-114R3 Hellfire air-to-surface missiles (ASM).[196] The total cost for this procurement is around $295 million.[197] 4 of the ordered Apache helicopters will be stationed in Natuna Islands, an island within the South China Sea.[198] The Indonesian Army are also reportedly interested in purchasing 4 Boeing CH-47 Chinook transport helicopter and 17 Sikorsky UH-60 Black Hawk utility helicopter[199][200]

On 6 July 2020, the U.S. State Department announced that they had approved a possible Foreign Military Sale to Indonesia of eight MV-22 Block C Osprey aircraft and related equipment for an estimated cost of up to $2 billion. The U.S. Defense Security Cooperation Agency notified Congress of this possible sale.[201]

On Thursday, 16 July 2020 Minister of Defence Prabowo Subianto confirmed that the Ministry of Defence had ordered 500 Maung from Pindad for the first phase, some of the production is hoped to be completed by October 2020 for the 2020 Indonesian National Armed Forces Day. The total number of Maung to be purchased is approximately up to 3.000 units. Prabowo also ordered for 25.000 units of long & short barreled weapons from Pindad.[202][203]
