Fort Wynyard was erected in 1860 near the site where the Dutch East India Company's battery "Kyk in de Pot", which was dismantled between 1825 and 1827, stood. The fort was named after Lt-Gen. R. H. Wynyard, the then Lieutenant-Governor of the Cape Colony Type of site: Fort.

Grove House in its present form dates from the late nineteenth century. As such it is a good example of Victorian architecture.

This historic complex of buildings, of which the core of the original dwelling-house dates from the eighteenth century, was built on land originally granted in 1666 to Hendrik Lacus.
