History

Before the launch

On November 30, 2004, VH1 Classic Europe featured a program with 90s music videos "Smells Like The 90s" after the launch of this channel. In December 2005, VH1 Classic Europe featured thematic programs with clips from the 90s:

  • The 90s Alternative - Alternative and obscure videos from the 90s.
  • The 90s Chilled - Laid back and chill-out classics from the 90s.
  • The 90s Danced - Classic dance and electronic tracks from the 90s.
  • The 90s Partied - Party hits from the 90s.
  • The 90s Popped - Pop music from the 90s.
  • The 90s Rocked - Rock music from the 90s.
  • The 90s Years - A selection of music videos from one particular year of the 90s.

On July 1, 2012, "VH1 Classic Europe" closed the theme programs with music videos from the 90s. In April 2015, "VH1 Classic Europe" featured a marathon of 90s music videos - "Nothing But The 90s", which was released every three weeks - on weekends. On January 9, 2018, another program appeared on "VH1 Classic Europe" - "90s Boys vs 90s Girls". At the end of June 2018, "VH1 Classic Europe" closed the program "90s Boys vs 90s Girls", and in September of this year - a marathon of music videos of the 90s - "Nothing But The 90s". The last edition of the program with music videos from the 90s "Smells Like The 90s" was shown on September 19, 2020 in connection with the transition to round-the-clock broadcasting of a new music channel with music videos from the 80s "MTV 80s" on the frequency "VH1 Classic Europe". The last video at the end of the last release of this program was "Only Happy When It Rains" by the American band "Garbage".

After starting

From May 27 to June 24, 2016, "MTV 90s" broadcasts in test mode on the frequency "MTV Classic UK" (taking into account the announcements of "MTV UK", the British advertising and TV store from 3:00 to 6:00 London Time). Since October 5, 2020, "MTV 90s" broadcasts in full mode on the frequency "MTV Rocks Europe". The first video on "MTV 90s" was "I Will Always Love You" by Whitney Houston at 5:00 CET.

The format of the channel

Since its launch, "MTV 90s" has been broadcasting the format of the British music channel "Now 90s". Unlike the "Now 90s" channel, "MTV 90s" broadcasts without announcements and without commercial advertising.
