Fawcett, Alberta

Fawcett is a hamlet in central Alberta, Canada within Westlock County.[1] It is located on Highway 44, approximately 118 kilometres (73 mi) northwest of Edmonton, and four kilometres east of Hubert Lake Wildland Provincial Park.[2]

The community has the name of a railroad officer.[3]

Demographics

As a designated place in the 2016 Census of Population conducted by Statistics Canada, Fawcett recorded a population of 69 living in 31 of its 37 total private dwellings, a change of -5.5% from its 2011 population of 73. With a land area of 0.45 km2 (0.17 sq mi), it had a population density of 153.3/km2 (397.1/sq mi) in 2016.[4]

As a designated place in the 2011 Census, Fawcett had a population of 73 living in 27 of its 30 total dwellings, a -7.6% change from its 2006 population of 79. With a land area of 0.49 km2 (0.19 sq mi), it had a population density of 149.0/km2 (386/sq mi) in 2011.[5]

Notable residents

Fawcett is the hometown of professional hockey player and actor Ross Smith. Ross portrayed the character Barclay Donaldson in the 1977 movie Slap Shot. Casey Fawcett, the previous World Record holder for most glasses held in a single hand,[6] is also a resident of Fawcett.
