List of NCAA Division III institutions
There are currently 442 American colleges and universities classified as Division III for NCAA competition. Schools from 36 of the 50 states and the District of Columbia are represented.
Conference affiliations listed in this table are primary affiliations as of the current 2020–21 school year. Many schools will house some sports in other conferences if their primary leagues do not sponsor a given sport.

- Pine Manor will close at the end of the 2020–21 school year and be merged into Boston College.
- Plays men's ice hockey in Division I, but is not allowed to award scholarships.
- Plays women's ice hockey in Division I, but is not allowed to award scholarships.
- St. Thomas (Minnesota) is being forced to leave the MIAC in 2021. The school will join the Division I Summit League in 2021 as its main conference, with affiliate memberships in other conferences for football and ice hockey.
- Wesley will be merged into Delaware State in July 2021.
