Yip Hon Weng

Yip Hon Weng (simplified Chinese: 叶汉荣; traditional Chinese: 葉漢榮; pinyin: Yè Hànróng; born 1977) is a Singaporean politician. He is serving as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Yio Chu Kang SMC since 10 July 2020 after being elected in the 2020 Singaporean general election.

Education

Yip Hon Weng graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Physical Education, Sports Science and Mathematics (First Class Honours), from Loughborough University, UK under a Singapore Public Service Commission overseas scholarship.[1] Yip did his teacher training and obtained his PGCE from Exeter University, UK. Yip subsequently read his masters degrees in the following areas: Administration, Planning and Social Policy; and International Education (Double Concentrations) at Harvard University, Knowledge Engineering at National University of Singapore, Financial Engineering at Nanyang Technological University with a project stint at Carnegie Mellon University. He is a Sloan Fellow and obtained his MBA from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, under the Administrative Service Post-graduate Scholarship.[1]

Career

Early career

Yip Hon Weng started his career as an education officer and taught at Kent Ridge Secondary School.[1] He subsequently served in several leadership, management and policy related roles in the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Manpower, Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Health and Ministry of National Development.[1] He was a Singapore Administrative Service officer. He was part of the founding team that established the Municipal Services Office which was announced by the Prime Minister at his National Day Rally in 2014, where the OneService app was created.[1] He was Group Chief, Silver Generation Office in the Agency of Integrated Care and concurrently Advisor (Care Integration), Ministry of Health, prior to his entry into politics.

Politics

Yip Hon Weng was fielded in 2020 Singaporean general election to contest in Yio Chu Kang Single Member Constituency on People's Action Party's ticket against Progress Singapore Party.[2] On 11 July 2020, Yip was declared to be elected to represent Yio Chu Kang SMC in the 14th Parliament of Singapore, garnering 61% of the valid votes.[3]

Personal life

Yip is married and has five children.[4]
