Since Providence limits mayors to two-consecutive terms,[1] incumbent mayor Jorge Elorza, a Democrat, is term-limited.[2]

The field for the Democratic nomination is anticipated to be very crowded.[3] This is, in part, attributable to the fact that a majority of the Providence City Council will be term-limited out in 2022, freeing up a lot of city council members to run for mayor.[4]
