The barangay's total land area is 824 hectares (2,040 acres).[3] According to the 2015 census, it has a population of 885. [1]

Governor Boyles celebrates its annual fiesta on 15 May in honor of their patron saint.

Location

Located in the south of the municipality, Governor Boyles is bounded to the north by San Francisco, to the east by Villa Teresita, to the west by Buenavista and to the south, by the municipality of Alicia. Governor Boyles is 20 km (12 mi) from the town center, Poblacion.

History

Formerly the name of the place was Sampongon, which means summit. Together with sitio La Suerte (now also a barangay), sitio Sampongon were former constituents of mother barangay of San Isidro which now a part of Pilar. It became a separate barrio in 1951. However in 1961, the old San Isidro was being annexed to Pilar, Bohol when it became an independent municipality. [4] Pilar wanted to include Sampongon to their newly founded municipality, but residents chose to remain part of Ubay. Later in 1965, its name was changed to Governor Boyles, in honor of former Bohol governor, Eutiquio O. Boyles (16 October 1916 – 15 October 1919).[5]
