The following is a timeline of the COVID-19 pandemic in Ghana.

Timeline

March 2020

  • On 11 March, President Nana Akufo-Addo directed the Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta, to make the cedi equivalent of $US100 million[1] available to enhance Ghana's coronavirus preparedness and response plan.[2] The President, Nana Akufo-Addo delivered a coronavirus state of the Nation Address.
  • On 12 March, the Health Minister Kwaku Agyemang-Manu announced Ghana's first two cases at an emergency press briefing.[3] The tests were performed at the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research, University of Ghana. The two cases were people who returned to the country from Norway and Turkey, making them imported cases of COVID-19 in Ghana. These two cases begun the first contact tracing process in Ghana.[4] Of the first two cases reported in Ghana, one case was a senior officer at the Norwegian Embassy in Ghana who had returned from Norway,[5] while the other was a staff member at the United Nations (UN) offices in Ghana who had returned from Turkey.[6]
  • On 13 March, Ghana confirmed two more cases bringing the number to four cases in the country.
  • On 14 March, Ghana again confirmed two cases summing up to six cases in the country.[7]
  • On 15 March, at 10 pm, President Nana Akufo-Addo banned all public gatherings including conferences, workshops, funerals, festivals, political rallies, church activities and other related events to reduce the spread of COVID-19 at a press briefing on the state of COVID-19.[8]
  • On 16 March, the President Akufo-Addo addressed the nation on measures taken to combat coronavirus pandemic[9]
  • On 17 March, a total of 143 suspected cases had been tested for COVID-19 by the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research (NMIMR) and Kumasi Centre for Collaborative Research (KCCR)[10] bringing the positive case count to seven (7) positive cases all imported in the Greater Accra Region of Ghana.[11][12]
  • The Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta, also declared in Parliament that the $100 million announced by President Akufo-Addo to fight coronavirus was not ready.[13] This revelation by the Minister did not go down well, with many Ghanaians slamming the president for not being sincere and honest in such a precarious situation.[14]
  • Traveling to Ghana from countries which had recorded over 200 positive COVID-19 cases was strongly discouraged with non-admittance of such travelers; however, this restriction did not apply to Ghanaian citizens and people with resident permits.[15][16] A web page[17] was also created to provide official updates and information.
  • On 18 March, Ghana recorded two cases which sum up to nine cases. These were confirmed by NMIMR, both Ghanaians returning from the United Kingdom and the United Arab Emirates. On the same day, three Ghanaians in Europe died from the disease.[18]
  • On 19 March, KCCR confirmed two new cases in Kumasi, the Ashanti Region of Ghana, bringing the number of confirmed cases in the country to eleven.[19] Passport services were also suspended on this date.[20]
  • On 20 March, Ghana recorded five new cases in the Greater Accra Region, raising the total confirmed cases to sixteen.[21] President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo delivered his 4th State of the Nation Address in Parliament.[22]
  • On 21 March, Ghana confirmed three new cases raising the number of cases to 19 patients. At 9 pm, the President of the republic, Nana Akuffo Addo addressed the nation with Ghana's first death case from Kumasi.[23] Two new cases were later confirmed making a total of twenty-one confirmed cases in Ghana.[17]
  • On 22 March, three new cases were confirmed in the country, hence amounting to 24 cases.[24]
  • On 23 March, three cases were recorded, summing up to 27 cases. The Local Government Minister announced the disinfection of 137 markets in the Greater Accra Region.[25][26] On that same day, all beaches were closed to help contain the spread of the virus.[27] All of the county's borders were closed for a fortnight from midnight of Sunday the 22nd of March 2020.[28][29]
  • On 24 March, the Minister of Health announced 25 new confirmed cases and one new death case, hence totaling 52 COVID-19 patients and two deaths.[30]
  • On 25 March, there were 15 new cases with a third death recorded at the 37 military hospital and an update from the Ghana Health Service brought the number of cases to 68.[31][32] The President, Nana Akufo-Addo delivered the third coronavirus Pandemic State of the Nation Address.
  • On 26 March, 64 new cases were recorded increasing Ghana's case count to 132.[33] On the same day, a letter written and signed by the Director General of the Ghana Health Service recalled all staff on study leave into active service. This was to help accommodate the workload on health centers.[34]
  • On 27 March, Ghana confirmed three new cases totaling 137 cases.[35] on the same day, the first case recorded in the Upper West Region was made known at a press briefing in Wa.[36] The President addressed the nation at 11pm[37] with an announcement that placed some key cities in Accra and Kumasi under a partial lock down, effective Monday 30 March 2020.[38] Members of the Executive, Legislature and the Judiciary; and some services such as those that involve in production, distribution and marketing of food, beverages, pharmaceuticals, medicine, paper and plastic packages, were exempted from the restrictions.[39]
  • On 28 March, the total number of confirmed cases rose to 141 and the total number of deaths stood at five.[40] A special life insurance cover for the professionals at the front line dealing with the pandemic, was announced by the Ghana Health Ministry. The workers were insured under Group Life cover, with an assured sum of GHC350,000 on each life.[41]
  • On 29 March, the government of Ghana set up a quarantine center at the Northern Regional capital, Tamale, after the confirmation of 10 new cases of COVID-19 recorded in that part of the country, bringing the number of case count for COVID-19 to 152.[42]
  • On 30 March, the partial lock down of Accra and Kumasi took effect.[43] No new cases were recorded on this day.[44]
  • On 31 March, nine new cases were confirmed, bringing the number to 161 confirmed COVID-19 cases. The new cases were all in Accra. Three of the infected persons had returned from journeys to Germany, France and Hungary respectively.[44]

April 2020

  • On 1 April, the number of confirmed cases reached 195 with more security checkpoints and roadblocks set up in Accra. There was a bit of heavy vehicular traffic at many of the barriers and most commercial vehicles were not allowed to cross the Tema Motorway.[45]
  • On 2 April, nine new cases were confirmed, making the total 204. All new cases were from the Greater Accra Region. The nine cases consist of four who have no contact with confirmed cases nor a travel history, four who are contacts of confirmed cases and one traveling to Ghana from Benin within the last 14 days.[44] Two cases are in critical condition.[46]
  • On 3 April, one new case was confirmed and the total number stood at 205. The regions that have reported cases are Greater Accra (183 cases), Ashanti (9 cases), Northern (10 cases), Upper West (1 case), Eastern (1 case) and Upper East Region (1 case).[47] There was a disinfection exercise for 266 markets in the Northern, North East and Savannah regions.[48] At a press briefing, the Director General of the Ghana Health Service, announced the commencement of local production of nose masks as part of efforts to arrest the spread of the pandemic.[49] 49 persons who tested positive were discharged from health facilities to begin home care management.[50]
  • On 4 April, 198 markets in the Eastern Region of Ghana were disinfected as part of the drive to control the pandemic. The Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development teamed up with Moderpest Company and Zoomlion Ghana for the exercise.[51] The Minister for Information announced in a tweet, that the closure of the borders has been extended by the president, for another fortnight effective midnight of Sunday 5 April 2020.[52] The Ghana Health Service confirmed nine additional cases, bringing the total to 214. Six of the cases were in Accra and three in Kumasi.[53] On 5 April 2020, no new cases were recorded.[54]
  • On 6 April, 73 new cases are confirmed and the total number of cases rises to 287. The new cases are in Accra and Kumasi.[55][56][57]
  • On 8 April, the number of confirmed rose to 313 as 26 more cases and one death are recorded. The Central Region recorded its first case. The infected person is a 57-year-old clergyman who returned to the country from the United Kingdom on 17 March 2020.[58][59][60]
  • On 9 April, Ghana's case rose to 378.[61][62][63][64] It was announced by the President of Ghana during his national address to the nation. The new cases were detected as a result of ongoing contact tracing and testing exercise in the country.[62][64] 15 of the new cases were in the Eastern Region.[65]
  • On 10 April, 408 cases were confirmed, with eight deaths and the disease now in the Greater Accra, Ashanti, Central, Eastern, Northern, North East, Upper East and Upper West regions.[66] Professor Jacob Plange-Rhule, Rector of the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons, died from COVID-19 at University of Ghana Medical Centre in Accra.[67][68]
  • On 11 April, a total of 566 cases were confirmed. This came after the Ghana Health Service confirmed 158 new cases.[69] Western and Volta regions recorded their first cases each. Western region recorded one case, whereas Volta Region recorded nine cases. Six out of the nine COVID-19 cases in the Volta Region were from Nigeria and entered Ghana illegally through unapproved routes along the Ghana-Togo border.[70] According to the health authorities, the increasing number of cases was as a result of the ongoing enhanced surveillance.[71][72][73] This brings the total number of affected regions in Ghana to ten.[73][69]
  • On 14 April, it was confirmed by the Ghana Health Service that Ghana's cases had risen to 636. 70 new cases were recorded in addition to the previous 566 cases.[74] Also 17 were reported to have recovered from the disease. They tested negative after they were tested two consecutive times.[75][76]
  • On 15 April, it was confirmed by the Ghana Health Service that Ghana's cases had risen to 641. In addition to the earlier 17 that have been reported to have recovered, 66 have tested negative once and are awaiting a second test, bringing the total to 83 cases that have recovered or been discharged.[77][78]
  • On 18 April, the number of confirmed cases increased by 193 reaching 834. There was one more death that brought the tally to nine with 99 recoveries. The number of tested samples is 60,916 out of which 1.37% are positive.[79][80][81][82]
  • On 19 April, the number of confirmed cases in Ghana was 1042. It was announced by the President of Ghana in his address to the nation. The partial lock down that had been imposed three weeks earlier was lifted but the other preventive protocols were still in effect.[83][84]
  • On 22 April, the number of confirmed cases stands at 1,154 with 120 recoveries. 122 new cases recorded with 21 patients recovering over a three-day period from the day of the Presidential address.[85][86]
  • On 24 April, 125 new cases are confirmed, bringing the overall figure to 1,279. 134 people have recovered and 10 have died.[87] The Oti and Western North Regions record cases and that brings the tally of regions with confirmed cases to 12. In the Oti Region, there are 13 confirmed cases, while the Western North has one case.[88]
  • On 26 April, 271 new cases are confirmed and the total is 1,550. There are 11 deaths, while 21 patients have recovered making total recoveries 155.[89]
  • On 28 April, 1,671 cases are confirmed.[90] 16 patients have died and 188 have recovered.[17] Mandatory use of masks is enforced by businesses and organizations.[91]
  • On 30 April, 403 new cases are reported, bringing the total to 2,074. The death toll stood at 17 with 212 patients making recoveries. The Savannah, Bono, Ahafo and Bono East Regions did not recorded any cases yet.[92][93]

May 2020

  • On 2 May, the number of confirmed cases reached 2,169 after 95 new cases were recorded. One more patient died, bringing the death toll to 18. The number of recoveries was 229, which was an increase of 17.[94][95][96][97]
  • On 4 May, the number of confirmed cases reached 2,719 and 294 recoveries, but the death toll remained at 18.[98]
  • On 7 May, 372 new cases were confirmed, bringing the total to 3,091. The number of recoveries was 303 and the deaths remained at 18. The Bono Region recorded its first case, bringing the number of regions affected with COVID-19 cases to 13 .[99][100]
  • On 8 May, 921 cases were confirmed, raising the tally to 4,012. The number of recoveries was 323 and the deaths stayed at 18. More than half of the new cases were from an outbreak in an industrial facility.[101][102]
  • On 9 May, 251 new cases were confirmed, increasing the total to 4,263. The total recoveries increased to 378 with four deaths, bringing its tally to 22.[103][104]
  • On 10 May, Ghana's case count increased to 4,700 with 494 recoveries.[105] In a televised address, the president extended the ban on social gatherings till the last day of May 2020.[106]
  • On 11 May, the government of Ghana through the office of the Ghana Tourism Authority, gave hotels, bars and restaurants permission to reopen but to operate under enhanced social distancing procedures.[107][108]
  • On 12 May, the number of confirmed cases hit 5,127. An increase of 427. Both the tallies of deaths and recoveries remained at 22 and 494 respectively. 272 out 427 cases which is 63.7% were from Obuasi which emerged as a hotspot for the spread of the virus.[109][110] The hotspots identified were in the Greater Accra, Ashanti and Central Regions. In Greater Accra, the Tema Metropolitan,Accra Metropolitan,Klottey Korle and Kpong Katamanso districts recorded the highest tallies with Tema taking the top position,followed by the Ablekuma, Okaikwei South and North, Ashiaman and Adenta areas as well as the Ga Central townships. In the Ashanti Region, Obuasi had the highest figures followed by Kumasi, Oforikrom, and Nkawie. Other areas were Old Tafo, Asokwa, Kumasi Municipal, Kumasi Metropolis and Suame which had high numbers as well. Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abbrem (KEEA) District, Cape Coast, and Ajumako are the districts with the high numbers in the Central Region.[111]
  • On 13 May, the number of confirmed cases was 5,408. Two more deaths were recorded making the count 24 with 514 patients recovering from the disease.[112]
  • On 14 May, 122 new cases were confirmed, bringing the total to 5,530. Recoveries increased to 674 and the death toll stayed at 24.[113]
  • On 15 May, the number of confirmed recoveries was 1460 and the number of death rose to 28.[114][115] 786 more recoveries were added to the previous 674 recoveries which rose to 1460. The number of total confirmed cases in Ghana has reached 5,638.[115][116] According to the Disease Surveillance Dept in Ghana, the country's active cases stood at 4,150. The regions which no confirmed case of COVID-19 are the Savannah, Ahafo and Bono East regions.[115]
  • On 16 May, 97 more people tested positive for COVID-19 which brought the total number of affected people to 5,735 in the country. 294 more people recovered from the disease making 1,754 recoveries.[117][118] One death was also confirmed bringing the total number of deaths to 29.[117][118]
  • On 19 May, the number of confirmed cases in Ghana increased to 6,096. It was indicated by the service that 19 more recovered making 1,773 recoveries from the virus. The number of deaths remained at 31.[119][120] 695 persons tested positive at a fish-processing factory in Tema after a worker contracted the virus and infected over 500 workers there. These figures arrived after the entire 1,300 staff of the company were tested. It was also disclosed that 95 percent of the affected persons recorded a first negative test.[121]
  • On 20 May, it was confirmed 30 health workers tested positive for the virus in Ashanti region during their line of duty. It was confirmed by the Regional Director of Health Services. Affected persons were frontline workers managing the disease in the region.[122][123] 173 new cases were confirmed making Ghana's case move to 6,269 according to Ghana Health Service. 125 more recoveries were made, raising the number of recovered persons to 1,898.[124][125][126][127]
  • On 21 May, it was disclosed that ten inmates had tested positive for the virus in the Tema Metropolis. The Tema Regional Police Commander said out of the affected ten persons, nine were from the Ashaiman cells and one was in a cell at Kpone,[128] According to the Ghana Health Service, 187,929 tests were conducted for the virus. 49,661 of the tests were conducted as a result of routine surveillance while 138,268 were through contact tracing.[129] 43 health workers tested positive for the virus in the Western region of Ghana. 20 of them were from the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital in Sekondi-Takoradi and the remaining 23 were from the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipality. It is was confirmed by the Medical Doctor of the Regional Hospital.[130]
  • On 22 May, Ghana's case increased to 6,486 and the number of recoveries were 1,951. There was an increase of 217 new cases. An increase of 53 persons who have recovered from the virus. It was confirmed by the Ghana Health Service.[131][132][133] A mining company in Prestea located in the Western region reported 2 cases.[134]
  • On 23 May, Ghana's case rose to 6,617 with an increase of 131 new cases. 27 persons where also confirmed to have recovered from after testing double negative. It means the number of recoveries rose to 1,978. It was confirmed by the Ghana Health Service. There was no death reported.[135][136]
  • On 24 May, 20 people were declared to have recovered from the virus. This brought the number of recoveries to 1,998. It was released by the Ghana Health Service. One death was reported, bringing the number of deaths to 32.[137][136] The Savanna region in Ghana, recorded its first COVID-19 case. The number of affected regions in Ghana is now 14. There was 66 new cases which has pushed the number to 6,683.[138][139] There was an increase in death reaching 32.[140][141][142]
  • On 25 May, the Ghana Health Service reported 72 new recoveries bringing the total number of recoveries to 2,070. They were discharged after they tested double negative for the COVID-19 virus. It was confirmed that there was an increase of 125 new cases since the previous confirmed cases to 6,808.[143][144][145]
  • On 26 May, it was confirmed by the Ghana Health Service that Ghana's case count increased to 6,964. This was said by the Director General at the press briefing. There was an increase in recoveries to 2,097. The death toll remained at 32.[146][147][148][149] It was announced by the Director General of the Ghana Health Service that Sekondi-Takoradi and Tarkwa all in the Western region are the new hotspots for the COVID-19 infection. According to him, these towns recorded 57 out of the 156 new confirmed cases which shot up the case counts.[150][151][152][153]
  • On 27 May, the Ghana Health Service confirmed Ghana's cases increased to 7,117 as 153 new cases were recorded. The number of recoveries rose to 2,317 as 220 people recovered. 2 people died of the virus which brought the death toll to 34. The active cases in Ghana was 4,766.[154][155][156][157][158][159] It was later confirmed 186 new cases recorded in Ghana pushed the total count to 7,303. This was confirmed on the website of Ghana Health Service. 95 more persons recovered moving the total number of recoveries to 2,412. Health personnel in Ghana conducted 205,890 tests. It disclosed the number of active cases stood at 4,857. The death toll remained at 34[160][161][162][163]
  • On 28 May, Bono East region confirmed its first COVID-19 case. This brought the number of affected regions in Ghana to 15. Head of Public Health of the Ghana Health Service disclosed this at the COVID-19 press briefing.[164][165] It was also confirmed that 11 inmates in the cells of Ashaiman police tested positive.[166]
  • On 29 May, Ghana's case count increased to 7,616. This was confirmed by the Ghana Health Service that 313 new cases were recorded with nine people declared recovered from the virus.[164][167][168][169] About 50 workers at the Jubilee Field operated by Tullow Oil were confirmed to have tested positive for the virus. This was confirmed by the Western Regional Director of Health.[170][171]
  • On 30 May, Ghana's COVID-19 case count increased to 7,768 with 2,540 recoveries. 152 new cases were recorded while 128 people recovered from the disease. This was confirmed by the Ghana Health Service. One person died which brought the death toll to 35.[172][173][174][175][176] 28 people were traced to the first positive COVID-19 case in the Bono East region of Ghana. This was disclosed by the Regional Director of Health.[177]
  • On 31 May, there were 113 new confirmed cases which raised the tally to 7,881. There was one more death, bringing the number of dead to 36 with 2,841 recoveries. The Ahafo region is now the only one without any reported case of the disease.[178][179][180] Ghana's COVID-19 case count rose to 8,070 as there were 189 new cases and the number of recoveries increased to 2,947 as 106 persons recovered from the virus. The president Nana Akufo-Addo disclosed this in his address to the nation. He said 218,425 tests were conducted as at 31 May 2020. The death toll still remained at 36. He also stated that the number of active cases in Ghana stood at 5,087[181][182][183][184]

June 2020

  • On 1 June, the Volta region in Ghana confirmed 40 more COVID-19 cases which increased the regions number from 44 to 84. At first, the number of the cases moved from 44 to 59, then to 71 in the middle of the week and to 84 during the weekend. The number of recoveries in the region increased from 28 to 35 by the weekend. This was confirmed by the Public Health Directorate of the region.[185]
  • On 2 June, it was confirmed 227 new cases were recorded pushing Ghana's COVID-19 cases to 8,297. This was confirmed by the Ghana Health Service case management. 2,986 persons recovered. The death toll rose to 38 as 2 patients died. Ghana's active cases were 5,273.[186][187][188][189][190][191] 95 persons from a total of 134 patients who tested positive for the virus in the Eastern region recovered from the disease. This was confirmed by the Eastern regional Health Directorate.[192]
  • On 3 June, the case count of COVID-19 in Ghana rose to 8,548. 146 persons recovered, which brought the total number of recoveries to 3,132. This was confirmed by the Ghana Health Service. Death toll remained at 38. Active cases in Ghana was 5,378.[193][194][195][196] Researchers at the KCCR warned of possible COVID-19 cases surge after easing of restrictions.[197]
  • On 4 June, Ghana's COVID-19 cases increased by 337 which brought the total number of cases to 8,885. This was confirmed by the Ghana Health Service. 57 more people recovered from the disease, which brought the number of recoveries to 3,189. Death toll remained at 38. Ghana's active cases stood at 5,658.[198][199][200] Greater Accra region recorded 6,102 cases out of the national overall number of 8,885 cases.[201] 111 health workers in the Central region tested positive for the virus. This was confirmed by the Deputy Regional Health Director.[202]
  • On 5 June, Ghana's case rose to 9,168 as 283 new cases were detected. This was confirmed by the Ghana Health Service. 268 persons recovered from the disease which pushed the number of recoveries to 3,457. Ghana's active cases stood at 5,669. 4 more people died from the virus, which increased the death toll to 42.[203][204][205][206][207]
  • On 6 June, there were 294 new confirmed cases that increased the overall count to 9,462. There were 90 recoveries pushing the number of recoveries to 3,547. Two more deaths were recorded, increasing the death count to 44. The number of active cases was 5,871. This was confirmed by the Ghana Health Service.[208][209][210][211][212]
  • On 7 June, Ghana's COVID-19 case count increased to 9,638 as 176 new cases were confirmed by the Ghana Health Service. The death toll remained at 44. The number of recoveries increased to 3,636 as 89 more people recovered from the disease. Ghana's active cases stood at 5,958.[213][214][215]
  • On 8 June, 272 new cases of COVID-19 in Ghana increased the number of cases to 9,910. The number of recoveries also increased to 3,645. Four more deaths were recorded which increased the death toll to 48. Ghana's active cases stood at 6,217. This was confirmed by the Ghana Health Service.[216][217][218][219]
  • On 9 June, 291 new cases were confirmed, which pushed Ghana's case count to 10,201. This was confirmed by the Ghana Health Service. 110 persons also recovered from the virus which increased the number of recoveries to 3,755. Ghana's active case stood at 6,398. Ahafo region recorded its first COVID-19 case which meant all regions in Ghana recorded cases of the disease.[220][221][222][223][224] The Effutu Municipality recorded 19 cases of COVID-19 disease with one death. This was confirmed by the Health Director of the municipality.[225][226] 16 persons who died from coronavirus in Accra were buried by the Accra Metropolitan Assembly. This was confirmed by the Head of Environmental Health Department of the AMA. She disclosed 27 families of the 48 persons who died from the disease registered for the burial, 16 bodies were buried.[227][228]
  • Model-based simulations for Ghana indicate that the 95% confidence interval for the time-varying reproduction number R t fluctuated around 1.0 from mid-June to the last week of July.[229]
  • On 17 June, a three month old baby died from the virus in the Northern region.[230] The Ghana Health Service denied allegations that it is under-reporting the virus death toll of the country.[231] An inmate at Kumasi Central Prison tested positive for the virus and was isolated.[232]
  • On 18 June, the Director-General of the Ghana Health Service confirmed Ghana has reviewed its COVID-19 discharge policy to ease pressure on health facilities and others. He explained that the review would affect patients who do not show symptoms of the disease and patients whose symptoms die down during treatment.[233] Five members of a media company called the Multimedia Group Limited in Accra, tested positive for the disease.[234]
  • On 19 June, the Foods and Drugs Authority cautioned the general public against buying or stocking dexamethasone after news of the drug was heard it helped reduced the number of deaths in COVID-19 patients who were on ventilators and oxygen in the United Kingdom.[235]
  • On 21 June, the president in his address to the nation assured the state remained committed to safeguarding teaching staff, non-teaching staff, and students from the COVID-19 disease as schools where partially reopened.[236]
  • On 22 June, the GHS explained that the reasons for the new COVID-19 discharge policy was to decongest the country's isolation centers and other reasons.[237]
  • On 23 June, the National Hajj Board said it was ready to refund monies collected from potential pilgrims as the 2020 Hajj looked grim. This was because Saudi Arabia refused to accept persons outside the country due to COVID-19 restrictions.[238]
  • On 24 June, Ghana recorded 445 new cases of the virus. This was confirmed on the GHS website. 171 persons also recovered from the virus.[239] The Ghana Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists called for the establishment of more COVID-19 testing centers with more enhanced equipment.[240] Tobinco Group of Companies produced Hydroxychloroquine, a drug for managing COVID-19 cases which has been endorsed by WHO.[241]
  • On 25 June, Ashanti region recorded 205 new cases with 3 deaths in 24 hours.[242] Over 21million Ghana cedis was distributed to institutions from the National COVID-19 Trust fund.[243] The Governor of the BoG said the impact of COVID-19 on Ghana's economy would be significant for the year 2020 as the disease was a global one.[244] A mining company donated hygiene products to some schools to help keep the teachers and students safe from the coronavirus in the Amansie West and South districts in the Ashanti region.[245]
  • On 26 June, the CEO of the Chamber of Bulk Oil Distributors said for the continent of Africa to be self-reliant, African leaders have to pay attention to the lessons from COVID-19. He spoke it at the virtual Africa Summit 2020 during a panel session.[246] An NGO donated PPE to the residents of Wassa Agona Amenfi to help in protecting against COVID-19.
  • On 27 June, the first series of flights that took medical supplies to Africa to help in the fight against COVID-19 pandemic took off the United Kingdom.[247] UNDP supported Korle-Bu Hospital to locally produce hand sanitizers to reduce COVID-19 infections in Ghana.[248]
  • On 28 June, the president also extended incentive package for health workers for three months as they led Ghana's fight against COVID-19 pandemic.[249] The president disclosed 83% of critically ill persons with the coronavirus have fully recovered.[250]
  • On 29 June, an investigative journalist showed a documentary where he exposed quack doctors in Ghana selling locally manufactured drugs portrayed as having potency to cure COVID-19 disease.[251]
  • On 30 June, the Head of Management Department of UCC Business School called for companies to show care to their employees, stakeholders and communities.[252] 2 people were arrested for allegedly manufacturing local medicines portraying it cures COVID-19 disease.[253]

July 2020

  • On 1 July, the former General Secretary of the GMA advocated for the inclusion of private health facilities in the testing of coronavirus disease samples in Ghana.[254] The Deputy Minister for Health justified government's decision to follow the WHO recommendation to discharge persons with the coronavirus disease.[255]
  • On 2 July, the minority in parliament called on government to ensure the EC complies with COVID-19 protocols.[256] A former president of Ghana said in a tweet that “it does not appear that we can afford the comfort of thinking the COVID-19 virus has gone weak or lessened its grip. It is there and very much around waiting to infect and claim the lives of those of us who will underestimate its danger.”[257]
  • On 3 July, FDA cautioned the public against the use of unauthorized COVID-19 tests kits.[258]
  • On 4 July, actors in Ghana claimed COVID-19 affected them as productions of movies and shows was halted.[259] COVID-19 pandemic 'inspired' locally produced wax cloth hit the markets in Ghana with names such as 'Fellow Ghanaians', 'Lockdown', 'Stay at home', and 'No flights'.[260]
  • On 5 July, the GMA disclosed that more than 150 health personnel tested positive for COVID-19 since the outbreak of the disease was announced in Ghana.[261] Health professionals in Ghana wrote to the EC to pause the voter registration exercise to prevent more COVID-19 deaths.[262]
  • On 6 July, BOST temporarily shut down after 46 persons tested positive for the virus. They tested positive after a mass testing of staff was conducted.[263][264] One student of Wesley SHS tested positive for the virus in Konongo.[265]
  • On 7 July, COCOBOD closed down their offices temporarily after it was reported some workers tested positive of COVID-19.[266] Some 648 contacts were identified after they were exposed to persons with the COVID-19 disease at Accra Girls School.[267] Catholic Bishops called for more security personnel to enforce COVID-19 disease protocols at the various voter's registration centers.[268] Worker at GRIDCo office in Tema tested positive for the virus.[269]
  • On 8 July, Chief Justice in Ghana went for a 14-day self-isolation after he was advised by his doctors.[270] Nine students in Mpraeso SHS went in isolation after they were suspected of the virus.[271]
  • On 9 July, the Minority in the parliament called for the closure of schools across the country as a means to end the spread of COVID-19 among students and staffs.[272] Minister of Education claimed most people at the Ministry tested positive for COVID-19.[273]
  • On 10 July, the NAS responded to 2,797 emergency cases of COVID-19 across the country since March 12.[274] A group donated an amount of GH¢100,000 to support the fight against coronavirus.[275] A group also donated 10,000 pieces of face masks to the Police Administration to help in the fight of COVID-19 pandemic.[276] GNAT expected mass testing in schools that recorded cases of COVID-19.[277]
  • On 11 July, the Ghana COVID-19 Fund donated food items to two institutions which seemed to be neglected during the pandemic.[278] It was confirmed by the Western Regional Director of Health that five schools in the Western region recorded COVID-19.[279]
  • On 12 July, the Head office of BOST was reported to have been fumigated and disinfected after COVID-19 was recorded at the facility.[280] The Minister of Regional Reorganization and Development was discharged from UGMC after he contracted the virus.[281]
  • On 13 July, 38 FDA staff recovered from COVID-19 after they tested positive for the virus.[282] The Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development called off the 2020 close fishing season due to the onset of COVID-19 pandemic.[283] The Council of PTAs called for the closure of schools and the postponement of the final year exams because of COVID-19.[284]
  • On 14 July, the GHS issued a warning regarding the usage of face shield without face masks. Both are to be used and not as an alternative.[285] An individual donated a machine to the UGMC to support the hospital and the fight against COVID-19.[286] A mobile app was introduced for health care providers which offers practical support for the handling of COVID-19 disease.[287] The Deputy Minister for Health claimed closing down schools because of reported cases of COVID-19 in some institutions was not advisable.[288]
  • On 15 July, the Deputy Minister for Health clarified the statement he made concerning the shutting down of schools over COVID-19 infections.[289]
  • On 16 July, the Deputy Minister for Education clarified the need for the final year exams to proceed despite COVID-19 concerns.[290] The Director-General of GHS said the country's COVID-19 figures trended in the right direction.[291]
  • On 17 July, an Accra High Court adjourned a trial to enable the counsel produce medical evidence of isolation as he claimed to have been exposed to COVID-19.[292]
  • On 18 July, the NHIA received 3,000 face masks from a company in Ghana in the fight against COVID-19.[293] The Western Regional Testing Center for the virus run out of testing logistics and reagents.[294]
  • On 19 July, the Director of Health Promotion at GHS claimed there is hope for Ghana to overcome COVID-19 soon if Ghanaians adhere to the safety protocols.[295] The 2020 John Atta Mills commemorative lecture was called off due to COVID-19 and its related restrictions on public gathering.[296]
  • On 20 July, the President gave an order for the second phase of nationwide disinfection exercise to limit the spread of COVID-19 in Ghana.[297] The Embassy of Netherlands in Accra donated PPE's to an organization for COVID-19 response.[298] It was reported the Upper regions in Ghana had no active cases of COVID-19.[299]
  • On 21 July, the Director-General of GHS said persons who show symptoms of the virus would be prioritise when they report to a health facility for testing. He also claimed Ghana's COVID-19 active cases were 82 percent asymptomatic.[300][301] The flagbearer of NDC suspended his tour of registration centers because of very low awareness of COVID-19 protocols.[302]
  • On 22 July, the president claimed he was not flown to the UK for COVID-19 treatment during his 14-day self-isolation.[303]
  • On 23 July, an NGO provided some female porters with relief items and some soaps, sanitizers and nose masks to prevent the spread of COVID-19.[304] The Local Government Ministry were commended by the Bono Regional minister for the second phase disinfection and fumigation of places across Ghana.[305] The former Finance Minister told Government not to blame Ghana's economy struggles on only COVID-19.[306] The Chinese Embassy in Ghana on behalf of the First Lady of China donated PPE's and other medical supplies to the First Lady of Ghana to help in the fight against the pandemic.[307]
  • On 24 July, the Vice-President commissioned the Ghana Infectious Disease Centre, a 100-bed facility built to help the National COVID-19 Treatment Center.[308]
  • Model-based simulations for Ghana indicate that the 95% confidence interval for the time-varying reproduction number R t was close to 1.0 until the last week of July, when it dropped below 1.[229]
  • On 25 July, the North East Regional Minister claimed the ongoing mass dis-infections of places have been useful and has controlled the spread of the virus.[309]
  • On 26 July, the GWCL announced that the free water extended by the government had already began.[310] The president addressed Ghanaians in the fight against COVID-19.[311] The AGI called for the addition of large companies in government's stimulus package of COVID-19 for businesses.[312]
  • On 27 July, the government claimed the implementation of the new rate of Talk Tax was to begin in September.[313] An NGO donated PPEs to a community in the fight against COVID-19.[314] A not-for-profit organization selected about 8,000 MSMEs in Ghana, Kenya and Senegal to benefit from $1.69 million package to help them navigate problems created by COVID-19.[315]
  • On 28 July, the GHS claimed there was a reduction in the active COVID-19 cases in Ghana.[316] Transport fares were reduced by 10 percent after operators were allowed to take full capacity.[317] Flights to the Wa airport were suspended over low patronage and COVID-19 pandemic.[318]
  • On 29 July, the FDA claimed none of the 34 RDT kits that were submitted met the testing requirement for COVID-19 RDT.[319] A lecturer of UDS urged Government to reopen schools in low risk areas.[320]
  • On 30 July, the GHS claimed it was expending COVID-19 testings to hospitals across Ghana.[321] A report from GSS revealed about 22 million Ghanaians had reduced incomes since the pandemic hit Ghana in March 2020.[322] Muslims were advised to avoid holding congregational prayers due to COVID-19.[323] NCCE in the ASEm embarked on COVID-19 sensitization exercise in public places.[324] The municipal chief executive of New Juaben South appealed to Ghanaians to help the Government's efforts to fight COVID-19.[325]
  • On 31 July, some organizations claimed not many women were given opportunities at decision-making levels in the fight against coronavirus in West Africa.[326]

August 2020

  • On 1 August, face shields were reported to have gained acceptance as protection against COVID-19, rather than the use of face masks, as they were claimed to be more comfortable when worn for long hours.[327]
  • On 2 August, the FDA claimed a hand sanitizer was safe for use and it does not contain acid after a viral video said it contains acid.[328] UG and a transport company partnered to use chlorine disinfectant in the fight against COVID-19.[329]
  • On 3 August, GSS claimed the COVID-19 pandemic had an impact on Ghanaian businesses and especially during the partial lock down.[330]
  • On 4 August, a media production company started to show an animated video series to create awareness on coronavirus safety measures.[331] The ECG claimed about 1.7 million electricity consumers would benefit from the government's COVID-19 relief.[332] A foundation donated assorted food items and PPE's to a family home on Winneba.[333]
  • On 5 August, the MP and MCE of Ablekuma West and the CEO of an organization to carry out education on COVID-19 to the public. They donated some items within the constituency.[334] A company donated some PPE's to the MoH in the fight against COVID-19.[335] The president claimed COVID-19 pandemic would not delay the completion of the Tema-Mpakadan Rail Project.[336]
  • On 6 August, a rapper in Ghana claimed even though COVID-19 has caused disappointments in 2020, he was looking forward to a more robust music industry in the country.[337]
  • On 7 August, GCB Bank approved GH¢100,000.00, an amount meant to be donated in aid to fight against COVID-19 and CMS in the Upper West region of Ghana.[338] The executives of NASPA of Accra Metropolis distributed face masks on a two-day distribution exercise in parts of Greater region of Ghana.[339]
  • On 8 August, there was a report concerning COVID-19 outbreaks when students are back to school.[340]
  • On 9 August, the leader of Risk Communication for COVID-19 National response team claimed Ghana is making progress against the coronavirus battle because of certain measures the Government put in place.[341]
  • On 10 August, three NGO's organized COVID-19 sensitization for some communities in the Ashanti, Eastern and Volta regions in Ghana.[342] An investigation revealed some staff of a hospital in Accra sold vital PPE's for personal gain as the country faced some shortages during the pandemic.[343] An association donated PPE's to NMIMR which was valued at GHC 150,000.[344]
  • On 11 August, PPE sellers association raised concerns about the price fall of face shields because of the influx of lower versions.[345] It was reported there was no case at the CCTH as all cases have been treated.[346]
  • On 12 August, GHS claimed four out of the 16 regions in Ghana did not have active cases of COVID-19.[347] GHS collaborated with a company to develop a location-intelligence platform for reporting and sharing information on COVID-19 in the country.[348]
  • On 13 August, the second lady of Ghana encouraged the youth to develop ways to mitigate the impact of COVID-19 disease in Ghana.[349]
  • On 14 August, the Ghana Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists asked the FDA to review the current criteria for the validation of RDT's for the virus in Ghana.[350]
  • On 16 August, Ghana's UNFPA Representative claimed COVID-19 pandemic has doubled the plight of the 'black girl'.[351] The president claimed there is the need to be able to test every entrant into Ghana by air before the borders of Ghana are reopened.[352] He also claimed none of the testing centers of COVID-19 had backlog of samples to be tested.[353] He also pleaded with Ghanaians to wear the nose masks well to help fight against the pandemic.[354] Some universities, technical universities and colleges claimed they are to return to school to complete the academic year.[355]
  • On 17 August, a group donated food items and toiletries to three orphanages to mitigate their plight during the COVID-19 pandemic.[356] South Korea supported the COVID-19 response team of Ghana with medical supplies.[357] The GHS claimed it would engage stakeholders to ensure entrants into Ghana are tested for COVID-19.[358] The MFWA for West Africa called for financial relief packages for media such as tax breaks during COVID-19 pandemic.[359]
  • On 18 August, Zipline received commendations for supporting Ghana's fight against COVID-19 pandemic.[360] UNICEFdonated health equipment and accessories to the Greater Accra Regional Health Directorate for distribution.[361] NCCE encouraged the public to prioritize personal safety to curb COVID-19.[362] Head of State Award Scheme in Ghana fonated masks to two institutions.[363]
  • On 19 August, the Head of Reproductive and Child Health of the GHS claimed nursing mothers who tested positive for the virus can still breastfeed their babies.[364]
  • On 20 August, a 10-member committee was inaugurated by the Minister of Education to advise and deliberate on re-opening of schools.[365] Lions Clubs in the country donated PPEs to a hospital and police station in Akuse.[366] KoKMA advised the chiefs and people of Osu to celebrate Homowo festival whiles observing the COVID-19 protocols.[367]
  • On 21 August, an events company fed people in Kumasi because of the implications of COVID-19.[368]
  • On 22 August, the World Bank claimed COVID-19 could force 100million global citizens into 'extreme' poverty.[369]
  • On 23 August, IATA released an airline self assessment health checklist to support ICAO take-off.[370]
  • On 24 August, it was claimed COVID-19 cases in Africa began falling in certain most hit countries.[371] An organization distributed face masks to some religious bodies in the Hohoe Municipality.[372]
  • On 25 August, Lufthansa announced it was preparing to distribute COVID-19 vaccines.[373]
  • On 26 August, it was reported that a large number of Ghanaians were not adhering to the safety protocols meant to prevent the spread of the virus.[374] The NCCE intensified its mass sensitization and education campaign on COVID-19 to the streets.[375]
  • On 27 August, UNICEF Ghana and the World Vision Ghana donated PPE's to the Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources in the support on the fight against coronavirus.[376] Water Aid Ghana collaborated with DFID UK and also Unilever, donated hands-free washing facilities to some government agencies in the country.[377] Ministry of Finance in Ghana and the EU donated PPEs to the Ministry of Education and some NGOs to be distributed to some schools in the fight against COVID-19.[378]
  • On 28 August, the Director of Health Promotion at GHS cautioned Ghanaians who have lowered the adherence to the COVID-19 safety protocols.[379] GPRTU urged drivers to adhere to the COVID-19 safety protocols.[380]
  • On 29 August, an NGO called for the protection of children who use online activities due to the advent of COVID-19.[381] The US Ambassador to Ghana donated PPEs to GHS.[382]
  • On 30 August, an organization donated PPEs to two orphanages.[383] KsTU donated some samples of foot-operated hand-washing machine the school built to KMA and other institutions to fight against COVID-19.[384] The task force in Greater Accra Metropolitan Area claimed it is challenged in its effort to enforce the wearing of face masks directive and that the lack of adherence to this directive might cause a rise of COVID-19 cases in Ghana.[385]
  • On 31 August, the MoH claimed Ghana has put in place enough measures to detect possible COVID-19 cases at KIA.[386] The president Nana Akufo-Addo in his address to the nation announced that all nursery, kindergarten, primary, JHS 1, SHS 1 students have had the rest of their academic year postponed til January 2021.[387] According to the Director of the GHS, children under the five years, air crew and passengers on transit would not undergo testing for COVID-19 at KIA.[388] Travelers that arrive Ghana by air were expected to pay US$150 for COVID-19 test as part of measures to control the spread of the virus in Ghana.[389]

September 2020

  • On 1 September, the Deputy Health Minister justified the $150 fee that was charged for COVID-19 testing at the KIA.[390] The CEO of a travel agency advised the government about the admission of people from high-risk COVID-19 countries into the country.[391] An association urged the government to ensure there was timely supply of PPEs to SHS students.[392]
  • On 2 September, the NSS claimed all service personnel who were posted to educational institutions that remained closed because of the COVID-19 would still be paid their allowances in full.[393] The FDA dispelled claims by a virologist at the NMIMR that the corona virus testing device that was used at the KIA was not reliable.[394] About 200 passengers on three flights at the KIA successfully passed the COVID-19 tests on the first day of the reopening of the airport.[395] A group claimed the $150 imposed by government as fees for COVID-19 test on travelers who arrived in Ghana was a violation of health regulations.[396]
  • On 3 September, the GHS announced there was no positive COVID-19 case among passengers who arrived at KIA.[397] NMIMR claimed its assessment of COVID-19 testing process at the KIA has guaranteed it was highly appropriate and reliable.[398] The GES and GHS jointly issued a guideline on how students can go home after their WASSCE exams.[399] An organization partnered with GHS to launch an electronic version of Health Declaration Form to obtain travelers history and signs and symptoms for COVID-19.[400]
  • On 4 September, the NMIMR disassociated itself from the comment of one of its staff on the COVID-19 testing system at KIA.[401] A lecturer at KNUST urged Ghanaians to tread cautiously to avoid a spike of COVID-19 active cases after restrictions were eased.[402]
  • On 5 September, GTA in collaboration with GACL held a sensitization workshop for tour operators and others after KIA was reopened.[403] GHS and an institution organized a COVID-19 Children's quiz at the headquarters of Health Promotion Division.[404]
  • On 6 September, the Deputy Health Minister justified the reason the government opted for antigen test to prevent the importation of COVID-19 in Ghana.[405] The CSO of Ghana distributed face masks and Information Education Communication materials to the less privileged.[406]
  • On 7 September, the Deputy Health Minister claimed Ghana recorded six new COVID-19 cases at the KIA after the airport was reopened.[407] The CEO of Vodafone joined leaders in Africa to speak on the economic recovery of the continent after COVID-19.[408] The GHS and others organized a day workshop for the Volta Regional House of Chiefs to sensitize them on the corona virus protocols and other ailments.[409] The Education Minister was claimed to have been worried concerning what he called the "digital divide" amid attempts to digitize education in the country after COVID-19 disrupted schooling.[410]
  • On 8 September, the Minister for Information appealed to traditional authorities to help upscale public education to prevent the spread of the virus in the communities.[411] The GIS claimed it has began the issuance of Emergency Entry Visa after Ghana's airport was reopened.[412] A company donated foodstuffs to the Kumasi South Hospital in the fight against corona virus at the facility.[413]
  • On 9 September, the office of MTN in the South West donated about 6000 KN95 nose masks to two hospitals in the Western region.[414] The GWCL claimed landlords and others who sell water to consumers can be arrested and prosecuted after it was announced by the government it is free.[415]
  • On 10 September, 67 travelers at the KIA who arrived were claimed to have been detained after failing to go through the compulsory COVID-19 test.[416] An organization delivered about 15,000 masks to some needy groups.[417] Two companies made donation of 100,000 medical face masks to support the fight against COVID-19.[418] UNDP in Ghana suggested the need to reduce inter costs in the country to support businesses due to the impact of COVID-19.[419]
  • On 11 September, some staff of COVID-19 burial team in Ghana called on the government to make provisions of relief packages promised to them.[420] An MP demanded the scrapping of Executive Instrument 63 which was claimed to compel network operators in providing private user information to state agencies in the fight against COVID-19.[421]
  • On 12 September, the MFA claimed over 9,000 Ghanaians and those who hold resident permit all over the world were brought back to the country during the border closure due to COVID-19.[422] Zoomlion extended its disinfection exercise to the Northern and North East regions.[423] 13 airlines were said to have resumed flights after KIA was reopened.[424]
  • On 13 September, the MFA claimed it has ended the evacuation of Ghanaians who were stranded abroad due to the COVID-19 restrictions.[425] A former CEO of BOST claimed difficulties in doing business in the country is not the outbreak of COVID-19 alone.[426]
  • On 14 September, travelers by air to Ghana were required to make online payments for the COVID-19 test at KIA before boarding flights.[427] A former president of Ghana claimed 1000s of people gather to meet politicians on campaign grounds even though there were restrictions due to COVID-19.[428] The Executive Director of NBSSI claimed there was an approval for the disbursement of stimulus packages to over 1,000 private schools in the country.[429] PPEs were delivered to candidates of the 2020 BECE in the various regions for distribution.[430]
  • On 15 September, candidates of 2020 BECE across the country adhered to the COVID-19 safety protocols.[431] The GACL deferred the implementation of the “No Payment, No Entry” policy for all travelers arriving into Ghana.[432] A group in the UK donated PPEs to the Ho Teaching Hospital in the fight against corona virus.[433] Increase in prices of goods was attributed to the closure of the country's land borders to contain the virus.[434]
  • On 16 September, it was confirmed 16 travelers at the KIA tested positive for COVID-19 after it was reopened.[435] It was reported the Ghana currency performed better than a number of other currencies across Africa during COVID-19 pandemic.[436] Private Tertiary Institutions were advised to adopt diversification of income so that they can be financially sustainable during the pandemic.[437] A foundation donated face masks and other items to some basic schools in Tema.[438] Over 4,000 face masks were donated to the Ghana Prisons Service for protecting inmates against the virus.[439]
  • On 17 September, it was reported China handed over the second batch of medical supplies to Ghana against COVID-19 pandemic.[440] A union of nurses and midwives appealed to the government to extend the incentives front lined health workers enjoyed in the fight against COVID-19.[441] ATU partnered with Coursera to support students with over 3,800 courses as it was an initiative of Coursera's Coronavirus Response.[442]
  • On 18 September, the Deputy Minister of Health commended health workers in the management of COVID-19 and their dedication to duty.[443] The Deputy Minister also urged health institutions to be active when dealing with matters of health and avoid discrimination by some health workers to patients.[444] The Information Minister urged Ghanaians must keep observing the COVID-19 protocols in spite of the reduction in active cases.[445] The Employment Minister claimed Ghana's employment rate reduced by 3.5%.[446]
  • On 19 September, the Vice President of Ghana claimed the country enhanced her reputation worldwide as a result of adopting innovative approaches in the management of COVID-19.[447] According to the Information Minister, COVID-19 pandemic has clouded Ghana's economic gains and a setback to eradication efforts of poverty in the country.[448] It was reported the effects of COVID-19 pandemic triggered 'Operation feed Yourself'.[449]
  • On 20 September, it was reported Ghana's COVID-19 cases reduced to 499.[450] It was announced 14 new COVID-19 cases were recorded at KIA.[451] A pastor urged his church members not to undermine COVID-19 protocols.[452] The president addressed Ghanaians on COVID-19 on measures to fight the virus.[453]
  • On 21 September, the GHS and others organized a workshop to sensitize the Central regional house of chiefs on the virus and others.[454] The president claimed the decision of government to test passengers for COVID-19 at KIA has paid off.[455] The president also warned Ghanaians not to underestimate the COVID-19 pandemic.[456] The President claimed 16 airlines were operational after borders of Ghana were opened to international air traffic.[457]
  • On 22 September, nurses and midwives went on strike and patients were left stranded in hospitals.[458] GHS appealed to nurses who went on strike to go back to work for the sake of Ghana's fight against COVID-19.[459] Stanbic bank in partnership with UNOPS donated COVID-19 tests kits to GHS.[460] The Australian High Commissioner in Ghana urged his staff to abide by all COVID-19 protocols set by Ghanaian authorities.[461]
  • On 23 September, the MoE with GES collaborated with Zoomlion to disinfect SHS across Ghana.[462] The nurses and midwives called off their strike action.[463] The President called out countries who claimed to have developed COVID-19 vaccines to make it available to all.[464] Over 3700 schools were disinfected in the Greater Accra to pave way for the reopening of schools.[465] The GACL announced there will be a fine on airlines who fly travelers who do not possess PCR tests or those with positive PCR tests at KIA.[466] MPA launched a campaign to provide a million PPEs for health workers to fight COVID-19.[467]
  • On 24 September, some members of Ghana's COVID-19 burial team showed their frustration after they were exempted from government's relief package for front line workers.[468] Zoomlion disinfected about 70 schools in the Western North and Western regions ahead of reopening of schools.[469] The World Bank approved an amount of US$125 million for improving of water supply and sanitation to communities in Accra and Kumasi.[470]
  • On 25 September, more than 200,000 businesses received some funds disbursed by the NBSSI to cushion them from the impact of COVID-19.[471] It was reported many Ghanaians ignored the advice of wearing face masks and also adhering to the safety protocols of COVID-19.[472] Zoomlion disinfected about 140 SHS in the Eastern region.[473]
  • On 26 September, a medical facility from Germany donated hospital materials worth about 30,000 euros to Nandom Hospital in the Upper West region.[474] Nyaho Medical Center donated a new vehicle to Ayawaso West Health Directorate to be used for delivery of services in the fight against COVID-19.[475] It was reported there was fraud at KIA over COVID-19 test.[476]
  • On 27 September, it was reported that according to a study, a new COVID-19 mutation has appeared to be more contagious and this new virus can defeat face masks and the COVID-19 protocols.[477] A workshop was held for the members of the Greater Accra region of Chiefs to deepen their awareness on COVID-19.
  • On 28 September, it was claimed COVID-19 and other factors caused the halt of the Tono Irrigation Project in the Upper East region.[478] PWDs appealed to the government to make COVID-19 interventions and responses to its members.[479] A policeman who tested positive for the virus and recovered became an ambassador for educating people and speaking up against stigmatization.[480]
  • On 29 September, the 37 Military Hospital received donations of items from staff of GAF and the Regular Career Course.[481] The Executive Director of National Cardiothoracic Centre claimed COVID-19 had affected patients refusal to use the facility because of fear of contracting the disease.[482] An NGO claimed the impacts of COVID-19 would affect response to HIV/AIDS and other diseases in the country and other African nations.[483] The Vice President claimed COVID-19 afforded an opportunity to set up policies that are intended to encourage the expansion of local industries and imports reduction.[484] Ghanaians were urged not to relent on observing the COVID-19 protocols.[485]
  • On 30 September, the Audit Service claimed the delay in submitting and publishing of reports for 2019 Financial year was due to COVID-19 and the lock down.[486] Zoomlion disinfected about 823 schools in the Upper West Region.[487] In a survey by GSS, communities along Ghana's borders experienced the worst economic shocks from the pandemic.[488]

October 2020

  • On 1 October, the minority in parliament demanded the suspension of the bond between the government and a company for testing COVID-19 at KIA.[489] The GSS claimed there was more criminal activities during the 3-week lock down due to COVID-19.[490] The Senior Minister said that the use of technology to conduct business in both sectors has come to stay.[491]
  • On 2 October, a charity organization warned the COVID-19 pandemic could cause a spike in child marriages in some parts of the world.[492] The Minister for Communication claimed COVID-19 pandemic demonstrated a rise in dependency on technology globally.[493] The Information Minister said the COVID-19 tests at KIA should be celebrated and not attacked.[494] It was reported the pandemic took toll on every part of the economy both locally and internationally.[495] A writer appealed to government to completely lift the ban on religious gatherings.[496]
  • On 3 October, some parents commended the government for the reopening of schools amid the pandemic.[497] The NCCE warned Ghanaians to continue to adhere the COVID-19 protocols.[498] The GES, GHS, CSO and other stakeholders in some districts in the Upper East region embarked on a project to help in the fight against COVID-19.[499] The Embassy of Brazil in Ghana donated ventilators to the MoH for COVID-19 patients.[500]
  • On 4 October, the GES told all second year students of SHS and JHS to go to school whilst observing COVID-19 protocols.[501] According to the CEO of Airbus, the aviation industry's outlook further deteriorated because of the rise in COVID-19 infections and renewed travel restrictions.[502] A ladies football club purchased a bus with the money they received from the FIFA Coronavirus Relief Funds.[503] A pastor advised Ghanaians to keep adhering to the COVID-19 protocols and not be complacent.[504]
  • On 5 October, students in SHS and JHS returned to school.[505] The Ghana Taekwondo Federation claimed they were to show their strategies and plans on how to deal with COVID-19 to the National Sports Authority in case they start their activities.[506] National Association of Graduate Teachers warned it did not want to see a renewed wave of coronavirus infections in the country.[507] A Member of Parliament showed his displeasure over non-compliance of COVID-19 protocols by some Ghanaians.[508]
  • On 6 October, the Minister for Works and Housing claimed COVID-19 worsened the country's housing deficit.[509] According to the US CDC, COVID-19 is airborne and claimed persons with the virus could pass it to others about six feet away.[510] A media platform joined in a conference to discuss the spread of misinformation of the virus on the African continent.[511] A Scientist at KCCR claimed the data that was available proved the spread of the COVID-19 was low.[512]
  • On 7 October, a brain specialist stated that going back to sports after the corona virus pandemic without any mental therapy would be disastrous for African football.[513] The Chief Director of Ministry of Finance urged others in the Civil service in Ghana to embrace opportunities that arose as a result of the pandemic.[514] The General Secretary of a union called on Global Leaders to prioritize the efforts of teachers in the face of COVID-19.[515] The Managing Director of a bank claimed even though the pandemic has caused some disruptions, they supported GJA Awards along with two others.[516]
  • On 8 October, the Bono East Regional Births and Deaths Registration Officer claimed there was a reduction in births and deaths registration in the region because of the COVID-19 pandemic.[517] The ECG said some of its customers refused to pay their bills after the government's 3-month COVID-19 electricity reduction expired.[518] The Minister of Aviation claimed the standard COVID-19 prevention protocols that has been observed at KIA sustained the 'attractiveness' of the airport during the pandemic.[519]
  • On 9 October, a writer wrote an article on the need to start planning and preparing for the distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine if it was ready.[520]
  • On 10 October, the CEO of UGMC disclosed only one Chinese national was at the COVID-19 treatment facility.[521] The Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection said that about 75,000 vulnerable people in some regions in the country received financial support due to the impact of the pandemic.[522] The Minister also urged Ghanaians to protect girls during this pandemic and their rights protected.[523] The CEO of an entertainment industry claimed he was not really affected by COVID-19.[524]
  • On 11 October, researchers in Australia claimed Covid-19 can be infectious on surfaces on some items for 28 days.[525] According to the CEO of National Petroleum Commission, Covid-19 led to the cancellation of some petroleum contracts.[526]
  • On 12 October, a CSO urged political parties in the country to publish their corona virus campaign guidelines.[527] A conference was set to be held to empower businesses for their sustainability and success in the face of Covid-19.[528]
  • On 13 October, an MP commissioned a borehole to aid in the hand-washing protocol to stop the spread of the virus.[529] The NCCE and the GMA told the political parties in the country to adopt new ways of campaigning to avoid a second wave of the pandemic.[530] An association claimed trade barriers restricted its members after the second wave of the pandemic in those countries they trade with.[531]
  • On 14 October, airlines were claimed to expect to lose about US$300,000 every minute for the second half of the year due to the impact of the pandemic.[532] An agency predicted those who export oil from EM would face severe revenue cut due to the pandemic.[533] The CEO of an agency threatened to sue the government and other stakeholders for the Covid-19 testing at KIA and detaining of Ghanaian travelers.[534] An international company donated some test kits to MoH to help in government's response to Covid-19.[535] A joint venture company donated PPEs to health workers.[536]
  • On 15 October, the MoH received a Covid-19 AI software for detecting the virus on Chest X-rays.[537] An association in the US called on government to reduce the Covid-19 test fee at KIA.[538] The Director of Health Promotion at GHS claimed electronic health delivery is the future of the country's health system.[539] A network in Ghana was set to host a conference to empower businesses despite the pandemic's challenges.[540] A player of the national football team tested positive for the virus.[541]
  • On 16 October, a Ghanaian player was ruled out of a match after testing positive to the virus.[542] Ghana's rail line in the Western region was to begin operation after it was suspended due to the outbreak of the pandemic.[543] A company donated some face masks to the La Polyclinic to encourage the wearing of the masks.[544]
  • On 17 October, the CEO of Salt Media advised the government to communicate well on the changes to the Covid-19 test payments for arrivals in Ghana.[545] WaterAid Ghana urged the government to provide water and hygiene to curb the spread of the virus.[546] Ghanaians were claimed to have increased the intake of fruits and vegetables during the Covid-19 pandemic to boost their immune system.[547] It was reported 55 African countries had more than 1,600,000 confirmed cases.[548] An association commended the government for the new decisions that helped the local industries to make materials in the fight against the pandemic.[549]
  • On 18 October, Ghanaian player, Jordan Ayew tested positive for the virus.[550] It was claimed the pandemic has brought about the use of technology and digitization for education systems across the world.[551] The President of Ghana in his address to the nation said Ghana has a low Covid-19 death rate.[552] A lady appealed to the government to make measures of protecting and motivating of front line workers.[553]
  • On 19 October, a digital-based health system introduced a new form of testing of COVID-19 for passengers and others in the country.[554] The President claimed the country had no patient in the COVID-19 Isolation centers in Ghana,[555] but he also warned Ghanaians to be cautious and adhere to the protocols.[556] The GFA claimed it took all the COVID-19 protocols during the country's friendly matches against Mali and Qatar.[557] A student tested positive for the virus.[558] The Presidential Advisor on Health claimed Ghana was not in the stage of second wave of COVID-19 infections.[559] A virologist at KCCR claimed Ghana was unlikely to suffer a second wave of the virus.[560]
  • On 20 October, the Deputy Health Minister claimed the decision to keep the country's air borders not risky,[561] he also claimed the government is not hiding figures on COVID-19 to bring about false sense of security in the country.[562] An organization sensitized residents of a community on COVID-19 and also donated some items.[563] Women entrepreneurs helped by the NBSSI to begin their businesses to be strong after the impact of the pandemic.[564] The Information Minister claimed there should be more awareness on the reason why all COVID-19 protocols should be observed.[565] The Health Minister cautioned Ghanaians to be wary despite the continued easing of COVID-19 restrictions.[566]
  • On 21 October, the outbreak of the pandemic affected the bloodstock at a hospital.[567] The Information Minister praised the President for showing leadership in the fight against the pandemic in Ghana.[568] A psychologist cautioned political parties in Ghana to abide by the COVID-19 protocols.[569]
  • On 22 October, the minority in parliament raised concern with the contract awarded on the testing of COVID-19 at KIA,[570] and also accused the government of using monies raised during the pandemic to enrich themselves.[571] Ghanaians were cautioned on the defying of COVID-19 protocols as the pandemic was still around.[572] The GIS asked the residents along the border communities to report foreigners who enter Ghana illegally.[573]
  • On 23 October, the Deputy Health Minister backed the $150 charged at KIA for the COVID-19 test.[574] A company donated PPEs to a school to help prevent the spread of the virus.[575] An organization donated PPEs to three health facilities to support in the fight against COVID-19.[576]
  • On 24 October, a pastor was disappointed on the government's decision to give the COVID-19 contract to a foreigner.[577] A security risk officer of SCB advised organizations to work from home as it has come to stay as a result of COVID-19.[578] A Ghanaian player disclosed COVID-19 halted his move to an Ethiopian football team.[579]
  • On 25 October, the Chief Justice charged the media with adhering to the COVID-19 protocols.[580]
  • On 26 October, a former Deputy General Secretary of NDC claimed the amount charged at KIA for COVID-19 testing was 'reasonable'.[581] A PC for Tema East Constituency organized a health walk to create awareness oF COVID-19.[582] The Chairperson of a Ghana's Polio Plus Committee claimed vaccination of children in the era of the pandemic was very critical.[583] Deputy Health Minister claimed there could be a reduction of the amount charged for the COVID-19 test at KIA.[584]
  • On 27 October, the MD of State Transport Corporation disclosed the borders of Ghana that was closed during the pandemic resulted to low revenue.[585] The CEO of Microfinance and Small Loans Center said the institution would reduce the loan recovery rate due to the outbreak of the virus.[586] The Okyenhene donated some materials and items to a hospital due to the outbreak of COVID-19.[587]
  • On 28 October, the opposition party alleged the country's debt did not rise because of COVID-19 pandemic.[588] The GHS advised Ghanaians to seek medical treatments at health centers during the pandemic.[589] The President advised the people to follow strictly the COVID-19 protocols.[590] A medical officer of CAF urged the Ghanaian government to support clubs with the testing of COVID-19 before the start of the premier league.[591] The Deputy Minister for Health said 97 persons who were asymptomatic to the virus were discovered at KIA.[592]

  • On 6 November, the President claimed the Ghana's fight against the pandemic was 'successful' due to the agricultural sector,[626] and food was in abundance despite the difficulties the pandemic brought.[627] A Church commended the government for how it tackled COVID-19.[628] The best farmer in the Hohoe Municipal claimed the pandemic made access to agricultural inputs hard for farmers.[629] The advisor to the president said political parties were engaged by the National COVID-19 task-force to follow the safety protocols.[630]
  • On 7 November, the advisor to the president warned against the notion of the virus is no more in Ghana.[631] The RGD of Ghana extended deadline for filing of tax returns due to COVID-19.[632] 3 members of Hearts of Oak were reported to have tested positive for COVID-19.[633]
  • On 8 November, drivers at a lorry station appealed to the police to enforce putting on of face masks.[634] The Chief of Manya Krobo advised political party members to adhere to the safety protocols.[635] About 172 cases of COVID-19 were recorded among travelers at KIA.[636] According to the President, the country records 130 new cases averagely per day.[637]
  • On 9 November, the CEO of a company claimed the virus should be tackled with seriousness against a second wave.[638] The President said the rise of COVID-19 cases was due to not observing the protocols by Ghanaians,[639] he also warned airlines who go against the PCR testing for the virus would be sanctioned,[640] and also warned political party members to adhere to the safety protocols.[641] The 2020 Africa Investment Forum was postponed to 2021 because of COVID-19.[642] 2 Ghanaian celebrities partnered with the Mastercard Foundation to create awareness on COVID-19.[643] The GHS warned the public to adhere to the safety protocols.[644] The third phase of the national market disinfection exercise also began on that day. Zoomlion in conjunction with the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development undertook the exercise to disinfect markets in Wenchi, Amponsahkrom, Subinso, Boku and markets in other towns nearby.[645]
  • On 10 November, the Director-General of GHS blamed the rise in COVID-19 cases to non compliance of the safety protocols.[646] According to the President, imported cases of the virus at KIA went up by 87%.[647] The Information Minister claimed campaign rallies of political parties was not the cause of increase of COVID-19 in Ghana.[648] According to the Ashanti Regional Health Director, about 12% of people in the region wore face masks.[649] The Afro Nation Ghana 2020 was called off because of COVID-19.[650] 676 school children were reported pregnant during the pandemic period in the Volta region.[651] CODEO blamed political parties for the disregard of the COVID-19 safety protocols in their campaigns.[652]
  • On 11 November, a political party advised its members to observe the safety protocols during campaign activities.[653][654] A group blamed the government for the increase in COVID-19 cases.[655] A Security Consultant claimed the lowering of the safety protocols for political activities caused the rise in the country's case counts.[656] The president of GMA advised the public to observe strictly the laid down safety protocols and be cautious of their health.[657] The Chief Executive of Ayawaso North Assembly said the people in the community need to go into gardening to avert the difficulties brought by the pandemic.[658] The Gomoa Central District Assembly was claimed to have had an improvement in revenue collections amid the pandemic.[659] The NBSSI supported businesses with funds under the CAP BuSS that suffered from the pandemic.[660] The MoH coordinated with other institutions to deal with the pandemic.[661]
  • On 12 November, a security expert claimed COVID-19 is more of a security threat than a health risk.[662] Former president Jerry Rawlings died from COVID-19, aged 73.[663][664][665] The Director-General of GHS claimed failure of private testing firms to provide information to the national COVID-19 response team is a fault line.[666] The third phase of the market disinfection exercise for Accra began.[667]
  • On 13 November, global leaders called for access to future COVID-19 treatment and vaccines universally.[668] 32 artisans were trained for the production of hand washing facilities to help in observing COVID-19 protocols.[669] COVID-19 cases detected at KIA stood at 180.[670] A political party advised its members to observe the safety protocols and limit campaign activities.[671]
  • On 14 November, the GPL recorded 56 positive cases of COVID-19.[672] A journalist appealed to the government to instill fear into Ghanaians to reduce the impact of COVID-19.[673] The NCCE in the Sekyere South District educated the public on the pandemic.[674] The MOYS directed all sporting activities to be held behind closed doors after the spike of COVID-19 in Ghana.[675] Hearts of Oak were reported to have recorded 31 cases of COVID-19.[676]
  • On 15 November, a Senior Partner at an institution advised businesses in the country to be ready for changes available after the COVID-19 era.[677] The virus caused the postponement of another GPL match.[678] The Municipal Chief Executive of Bolgatanga claimed the municipal would continue its efforts to avoid a second wave if the virus.[679] An initiative was formed to help promote the fight against COVID-19.[680] 245 markets in the Western Region are disinfected by Zoomlion Ghana Limited in the 3rd phase of the market disinfection exercise.[681]
  • On 16 November, the Information Minister claimed managers at workplaces should force the adherence to the safety protocols to stop the rise of the virus.[682] The Secretary-General for AfDB said the $150 COVID-19 testing fee charged at KIA was 'scary'.[683] A lecturer at UG claimed information about COVID-19 cases were been manipulated.[684] Management at KIA revised the COVID-19 protocols for travelers into the country.[685]
  • On 17 November, KIA makes COVID-19 test free for ages 5–12 years.[686][687]
  • On 18 November, the 2020 edition of AFRIMA was deferred to 2021 due to COVID-19.[688] A research conducted by the CRI resulted in more than 3,900 children claiming distance learning platforms were not effective[689][690] and CRI also claimed more than 2,000 children tested positive for the virus in a research.[691] Tema traders blamed politicians for the rise in COVID-19 cases.[692] MTN in Ghana donated PPEs to a traditional council in Nzema District.[693] The GP claimed it was hard to enforce law of the compulsory wearing of masks.[694]
  • On 19 November, the Executive Director of CRI suggested provision of information to the public to maintain strong immune system against the virus in children.[695] A nurse advised Ghanaians to observe the safety protocols to fight against COVID-19.[696] Nose masks dealers in Sunyani complained of low sales because of reduction in wearing them.[697] The Chamber of Tourism appealed to the government to sideline tourists coming into the country from paying the fee charged at KIA.[698] Experts in digital and marketing fields claimed COVID-19 has changed consumer behaviour in Ghana.[699] UG reversed the fees initially published after it was criticized by protest on social media for not regarding hardship brought by the pandemic.[700]
  • On 20 November, the VP of GMA was worried there was non-adherence of the safety protocols,[701] he also claimed the institution has not faced any shortage of medical supplies to fight the virus.[702]
  • On 21 November, a Director at MoFA called for collaborations and investments in Agricultural activities digitally in the pandemic era.[703] It was reported there was non-adherence to the safety protocols in the Oti and Volta regions.[704] An institution advised there was a need for the country to embrace opportunities created by the pandemic.[705]
  • On 22 November, the GHS rolled out a project to help laboratories to carry out testing for COVID-19 and other factors.[706] Some farmers in the Upper East region were supported under the COVID-19 response program.[707] The GMA cautioned there would be a rise in COVID-19 cases.[708]
  • On 23 November, the GHS taught the people in Elmina on the how the virus looks like, its transmission and its prevention.[709] The people of Somanya claimed the pandemic affected their livelihoods.[710] COVID-19 was said to have caused the trust of using technology in the banking sector.[711] An association urged its members to be creative due to the impact of COVID-19 on their works.[712]
  • On 24 November, the President of GJA claimed the death of Jerry Rawlings and the outbreak of the pandemic brought down the political tension.[713] It was claimed in an article COVID-19 has changed the dynamics of developments in the rural areas.[714] The Advisor to the President on Health claimed Ghana is ready to adopt COVID-19 vaccines.[715]
  • On 25 November, the GHS claimed there was a rise in COVID-19 cases in October because of the disregard of the safety protocols.[716] The CEO of a bank advised banks to meet shifting customers expectations after the pandemic.[717] Two institutions partnered to donate face masks to the people of two towns.[718] KIA recorded 120 COVID-19 cases during the month.[719] The GHS claimed political rallies are not a reason in the rise of COVID-19 cases in Ghana.[720] The Deputy Health Minister said the aged can easily be infected with the new COVID-19 wave.[721] Dealers in face masks in Kumasi complained there was reduction in the sales because it is not worn by the people.[722]
  • On 26 November, the pandemic led to the non payment of salaries of workers at a hotel in Accra.[723] The GHS established a working group for the assessment of deploying vaccines of Corona virus in Ghana.[724] It was claimed vaccines of the virus might be available to countries in Africa likely before the end of 2021.[725]
  • On 27 November, stakeholders in the Ashanti region were trained by Care International and the GHS on COVID-19 risk communication.[726] The Deputy Minister for Works and Housing commended the media for their role in the fight against COVID-19 in Ghana.[727] The Council of Private Schools in the country claimed there was a delay in the disbursement of the COVID-19 relief package by the Government.[728] There was a reduction in the wearing of nose masks in some part of Accra.[729] The Advisor of health to the President claimed the adoption of technology and innovation helped the health sector to check the spread of the virus.[730]
  • On 28 November, 'Health on wheels services' was introduced by a private healthcare due to the pandemic.[731] A 60-bed District Hospital was inaugurated to improve healthcare in Twifo Praso in the Central region.[732]
  • On 29 November, it was claimed economies of African countries would have been better than the rest of the globe during the pandemic.[733] The IOM announced that more than 150 Ghanaians in Libya were brought back due to COVID-19.[734]
  • On 30 November, there was a fire outbreak in the Intensive Care Unit of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital. This necessitated the transfer of three COVID-19 patients there to the University of Ghana Medical Centre.[735] The President was petitioned to set free pastors who violated the COVID-19 protocols during the pandemic.[736] The Governor of BoG claimed there was a quick response by the government to the pandemic's effects on Ghana's economy.[737] The President of GUTA claimed COVID-19 pushed the use of e-commerce among businesses in Ghana.[738] Businesses in Assin Central received the relief packages by government to support their businesses from the effects of the pandemic.[739] A Ghanaian film producer premiered a film on how the pandemic affected life of humans.[740]

February 2021

  • On 1 February, a minister-designate appealed to the government to reintroduce learning under trees to curb the spread of the virus.[741] Mortuary workers alledged government massaged COVID-19 deaths.[742] FDA nabbed 2 people for claiming to have a cure for COVID-19.[743] The President of GMA questioned why the government did not shut down religious institutions.[744] Ghanaians were cautioned the virus was real.[745] A foundation provided some hospitals with beds to contain the intake of COVID-19 patients.[746] The administration of KNUST suspended shuttle services on campus.[747] COVID-19 management team at KATH threatened to lay down their tools due to unpaid allowances.[748] South Korea provided PPEs and COVID-19 lab testing equipment to Ghana.[749] A politician donated PPEs and other items to an orphanage in the Central region.[750]
  • On 2 February, the GHS claimed about 20 COVID-19 cases were recorded in some schools,[751] it also claimed about 42% Ghanaians put on the nose masks correctly in a survey,[752] it also claimed the UK COVID-19 variants spread faster in the country.[753] Ghanaians were advised to be referred before they were tested free for the virus.[754] Children in the Upper West region were claimed to be contracting the virus.[755] A directive by the Judicial Association asked courts to only preside over 'urgent cases'.[756] A public health specialist claimed there was a need for a more balanced information on the threat of the virus.[757] The Health Directorate in the Volta region blamed the increase of the virus on disregarding the safety protocols.[758] A former Medical Director appealed to the government to lift taxes on PPEs.[759] Management of KIA revealed some measures to be followed by travelers into the country.[760] A professor claimed the rise in COVID-19 in the country was of no scientific novelty.[761] Ridge Hospital's COVID-19 ICU was claimed to have run out of oxygen.[762] A pharmacist claimed the country must diversify its sources for the vaccine of the virus.[763]
  • On 3 February, the association of mortuary workers in the country cautioned of congestion at the morgues due to the ban of large gatherings.[764] A health economist urged the government to focus on protecting informal sector workers from the virus.[765] Vodafone Ghana donated PPEs and some items to a hospital.[766] The GFA advised Match Commissioners to enforce Club Safety and Security Officers observe the safety protocols.[767]
  • On 4 February, about 29 people tested positive for the virus in a school,[768] Others also claimed it was 40 confirmed cases.[769] After about 15 MPs tested positive for the virus, the Parliament decided to sit twice per week.[770] A conducted research revealed the country had a shortage of hospital beds.[771] A Relation Analyst claimed some travelers used illegal routes in Ghana because of the amount charged at the airport.[772] Due to the demand of nose masks, there was an increase in the price.[773] A doctor at Greater Accra Regional Hospital claimed recovered patients of COVID-19 report back with complications,[774] he also claimed the hospital took new equipments to help in the test for the virus.[775] GMA warned the public FDA and other organizations did not approve Hydrogen peroxide as treatment for the virus.[776] A Director in UG advised suspected COVID-19 patients to be at home while waiting for results of tests.[777]
  • On 5 February, the MP of New Juaben South advised teachers to enforce the safety protocols.[778] 42 students tested positive for the virus in Akosombo.[779] VRA urged for calmness after it was confirmed some students contracted the virus.[780] An MP claimed the parliament should be closed after some people tested positive for the virus.[781] Bans on large gatherings had an impact on coffin makers.[782] A club donated PPEs to UGMC and Ga East hospital.[783] The Chairman of a football club condemned the disregarding of the protocols by the club's fans.[784] World Vision partnered an organization to launch COVID-19 infection prevention project in Accra.[785] COCOBOD claimed cocoa products contains antioxidants to fight COVID-19.[786] Municipal Chief Executive of Sunyani donated PPEs to be disbursed to schools.[787]
  • On 6 February, Archbishop of Cape Coast tested positive for the virus.[788] A Former Deputy Health Minister claimed public education needed before the COVID-19 vaccine arrives.[789] A research facility in UG claimed the new UK COVID-19 variant was spreading in the country.[790] The GMA advised the public to disregard any misinformation concerning the COVID-19 vaccine.[791] Fears of workers about COVID-19 at the Ministry of Justice was reduced.[792] An organization donated PPEs to private schools and had a meeting to discuss COVID-19.[793] A Pharmacist urged the government to review public transport system.[794] Parliament tightened protocols after some MPs contracted the virus.[795] 4 NGOs received nose masks from a delegation of EU to Ghana in partnership with a fashion industry.[796] Director-General of GSA claimed pregnant women and others would not be vaccinated against the virus.[797]
  • On 7 February, a Researcher at KCCR claimed the country's ability to collect, interpret and release COVID-19 data limited.[798] The former Minister for Communication claimed he was surprised the government decided not to administer the COVID-19 vaccines to the aged and others,[799] he also urged the government to publish the vaccine rollout plan for the country.[800] The CCG urged churches in Ghana to adhere to the safety protocols.[801] A lecturer at UGBS appealed to the government to secure more COVID-19 vaccines.[802] A network donated PPEs to some schools in the Central region.[803]
  • On 8 February, about 90% of tested COVID-19 samples were confirmed to be UK's new COVID-19 variant.[804] The US Embassy in Ghana suspended visa appointments.[805] The Supervisor of a Lab in Takoradi claimed the eyes could be a source of transmission of the virus.[806] The Director of Infectious Disease Center in Ghana urged Ghanaians against self-medication of the virus.[807] An organization appealed for the suspension of physical meetings in the Parliament house.[808] A Professor at UG urged for more observance of the safety protocols.[809] GMA called for the closure of schools to curb the spread of the virus.[810] Greater Accra Regional Hospital's COVID-19 response team claimed the testing facility in the hospital was complete.[811] 37 more students tested positive for the virus in AIS.[812]
  • On 9 February, the parliament of Ghana shut down for three weeks.[813] A Vaccine Professional claimed Ghana and other African countries were ready for the vaccine rollout.[814] The GHS claimed there were post-COVID-19 clinics for recovered people of the virus,[815] it also claimed Ghanaians should not be scared of the COVID-19 vaccine.[816] Administration of KIA reviewed the protocols for passengers into the country.[817] Some members in Parliament called for the dissolution of the COVID-19 technical advisory team of the Government.[818]
